Geraldo Rivera on Thursday lambasted Lou Dobbs for the outspoken CNN host's views concerning illegal immigration.
Speaking at a luncheon sponsored by El Diario La Prensa NY, Rivera disgracefully said, "Lou Dobbs is almost single-handedly responsible for creating, for being the architect of the young-Latino-as-scapegoat for everything that ails this country."
Rivera also told the audience that he had spoken to his boss, and was assured Dobbs was not coming to Fox (video embedded below the fold with partial transcript):

"One of the aspects of our reality in the United States now is the defamatory tone of the immigration debate and how that immigration debate has slandered an entire race of people. It has been reckless beyond imagining, it has been reckless in a way that is beyond precedent."
Wait a minute. Beyond precedent? Does Rivera have no recollection of slavery in America or the Holocaust in Germany? But I digress:
"Lou Dobbs, a man who was an accomplished journalist, and who left to go and start his own venture in the digital media, having to do with space, I believe, and then came back to CNN, and nobody was watching his program. He discovered that one of the way to get people to watch was to make of the image of a young Latino trying to get into this country a profoundly negative icon. Lou Dobbs is almost single-handedly responsible for creating, for being the architect of the young-Latino-as-scapegoat for everything that ails this country. [...]
It has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my professional life to watch as a good portion of the American people began to listen and believe that immigrants were responsible for crime in this country, responsible for bringing terror to this country, responsible for stealing jobs, responsible for effecting in a very negative way the American way of life. [...]
It is something that we absolutely said, "No mas" during the election of 2008...It's why Obama is elected now. He is the first, I maintain, Latino president. He's the first brown president. Why? He could be, and he looks Puerto Rican. And the, and the, the point is he would not be president but for the Latino vote and the Latino vote was for the first time in my lifetime an expression of a community understanding its responsibilities, getting up, going to the polling place, and saying, 'No mas.' "
Wow! Geraldo thinks Latinos got Obama elected. Unfortunately, the numbers dictate otherwise.
After all, Obama beat McCain by 8.5 million votes, but he "only" got about 4 million more Latino votes. By contrast, Obama got almost 15 million more African-American votes than McCain.
As such, claiming Latinos got Obama elected is absurd. But once again, I digress:
No more of these lies, no more of this slander, no more of this stereotyping. I can tell you proudly, when this man [Dobbs] was widely rumored to be coming to my network, I called my boss couple of weeks ago, and he said it's absolutely untrue. Lou Dobbs is not coming to Fox News. He belongs at CNN if they can justify his presence there that's their problem.
Wow!
Noel Sheppard is the Associate Editor of NewsBusters.
I blame Geraldo for it. He never did mentally recover from that “Al Capone treasure hunt” fiasco or that neo-nazi chair launched attack on his nose in the 80s. Sometimes when the screw is knocked loose, it’s impossible to re-tighten it.
Gerry Rivers strikes again. I wonder if that Narcissist and the one in the White House got in the same room if there would be any air left.
Time for Fox to stop writing check for HerAldo
Well, when Dobbs leaves CNN for Fox..which will be soon..maybe they can pair him with Geraldo..a la Hannity and Colmes..
Jerry Jerry Jerry
Geraldo said he called his bosses at FNC and they assured him that Dobbs was not coming to FNC.
How dare he make such a demand in the first place.
Gerry is a moron, one guy is responsible and so what, he is right(Dobbs that is), and add me to the list, boomop1 is too let’s share the blame a little..
As I posted on another thread, I’m visiting my old hometown of Cleveland. I left home nearly 35 years ago, and have visited less and less over the years. It’s been three years since my most recent visit before this one. My old neighborhood is much more, shall we say, multicultural now. It’s also an absolute shithole—I’m sure that’s just a coincidence (/s). While my impressions are still fresh in my mind, I want to say to Geraldo and anyone who thinks like him:
TAKE “DIVERSITY” AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS!
Hey Geraldo it is the Illegal Immigrants pouring over our borders, not Immigrants!
Jerry is making less sense than ever these days. He and his brother are both, as Rush says, “a french fry order short of a happy meal”.
Anti-illegal, not anti-immigrant. Jerry Rivers is a racist.
Jerry Rivers’ presence at FOX hurts the credibility of the org as being an actual news network.
Hey, I thought the anti-latino sentiment amongst the American people came from us catering to the latino’s every whim (no other immigrant in US History has had so much handed to them, especially with the bi-lingualism that plagues every aspect of American life.) On top of that, the fact that probably half or more are here illegally (illegal entry, illegal phony id’s, illegal benefits, etc.) not paying anywhere near the taxes they receive for public services (medical, schooling, etc.) crowding our emergency rooms, schools, jails, etc. and are on the road from being a minority to a majority and are politically motivated to take back the Southwest and unite it with Mexico, hey, what’s the problem, gringo?
What anti-Hispanic sentiment? Has Geraldo been toking again?
Ailes must have a soft spot in his heart and head for Gerry. I have a strong physical aversion to him, so much so that I seldom turn Fox on on the weekends, for fear that stinky botoxed tomcat will make an appearance. He just revolts me. His history of playing women is part of that, combined with his oh-so-macho dad routine now that his daughters are older. Unconvincing.
Have not noticed an “anti-Hispanic” sentiment. Anti-illegal alien, yes. Anti-Hispanic, no.
Maybe we should call Geraldo racist for equating Hispanic and Illegal Alien?
I blame Hispanics helping to elect a Marxist scumbag.
Too bad not many people have the courage to say what they really feel.
I agree with your sentimant entirely.
