A British nuclear expert has fallen to his death from the 17th floor of the United Nations offices in Vienna.
The 47-year-old man died after falling more than 120ft to the bottom of a stairwell. He has not been named.
He worked for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, an international agency charged with uncovering illicit nuclear tests.
A UN spokesman in the Austrian capital said there were no "suspicious circumstances" surrounding the man's death.
Police said no other person was believed to have been involved. No suicide note has been found.
Four months ago another UN worker also believed to be British fell from a similar height in the same building, it has been reported.

One would think that there would be security cameras in the building.
"Four months ago another UN worker also believed to be British fell from a similar height in the same building, it has been reported."
But on average, will two British Nuclear Scientiest fall to their deaths in the same building within four months?
Get with your actuary on this one, will wait for your report.
Twice in four months. Damn.

“British nuclear expert dies in 40-metre plunge”
By Thomas Hochwarter
SNIPPET: “Police are investigating after a British nuclear energy expert involved in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear programme fell 40 metres to his death from a UN building in Vienna.
Officials announced today (Weds) that the man named as Timothy Hampton died on the spot yesterday after a fall from the 17th floor at Vienna International Centre (VIC), one of the United Nations (UN) main headquarters along with New York, Nairobi and Geneva.
Authorities said the 47-year-old man a member of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) had joined the UNs current talks with Iran over its nuclear programme.”
Yes, especially 47 year olds whose work is so secret that their names can’t be released even after they’re dead. Mark my words, this is somehow connected to the American “moon scientist” (who also had top level nuclear security clearance) who was arrested the following day for spying for Israel.
“Four months ago another UN worker also believed to be British fell from a similar height in the same building.” With similar results. No “suspicious circumstances”
Ben and PI. Nothing here, please just move along. Brits getting more jumpy, railing malfunctions, vertigo, or just Vienaside?
Whats the connection here, one may wonder. R
The great majority of those are elderly or very drunk. This guy was 47 and presumably not sloshed at the office while conducting top secret nuclear surveillance.
dead scientists list ?!?
There’s epidemic large enough to keep a “list” thread? Wow, I need to go read up..
So now they’re naming him. That’s progress, I suppose.
As far as I’ve heard, there’s no indication that the previous one was a nuclear scientist. But then again, if officials are still referring to him as “a UN worker believed to be British” months after his death, I suppose he must have had some very sensitive position.
Oh I see, its a keyword..
Are there no elevators in this building? I mean, if you toss a bloke (well, two blokes) over the banister, he’s way going to beat you to the bottom if you can only exit by the stairs. How do you get out of the murder scene? Run screaming down the stairs ‘OMG he fell!’ ?
Have a nice trip, see you next fall.
Polonium came to my mind upon reading this.
LOL I think we’re all waiting to see how Drew was going to explain. They come up with the most amazing explanations of things.
It’s hard to imagine a building with a 17+ floors not having elevators. And almost as hard to imagine people who have reason to be on the 17th floor not using the elevators instead of the stairs. Possibly the stairs are used for short trips — maybe faster to get from 16 to 17 by stairs than waiting for an elevator. But still . . .
Hmm ... I wonder ... if at the bottom of the stairwell ... he left ... a self portrait?
It’s obvious somebody’s trying to send somebody a message.. but who? To whom?
