Regulatory Czar Sunstein urges the term 'marriage' abolished
WND via The Woodward Report ^ | October 23, 2009 | Aaron Klein

The U.S. government should abolish its sanctioning of marriage, argued Cass Sunstein, President Obama's regulatory czar.

Sunstein proposed that the concept of marriage should become privatized, with the state only granting civil union contracts to couples wishing to enter into an agreement.

Sunstein explained marriage licensing is unnecessary, pointing out people stay committed to organizations like country clubs and homeowner associations without any government interference.

"Under our proposal, the word marriage would no longer appear in any laws, and marriage licenses would no longer be offered or recognized by any level of government," wrote Sunstein and co-author Richard Thaler in their 2008 book, "Nudge: Improving decisions about health, wealth and happiness."

In the book – obtained and reviewed by WND – Sunstein explains his approach would ensure that "the only legal status states would confer on couples would be a civil union, which would be a domestic partnership agreement between any two people."

He proposed marriage not be recognized by the government. Marriages would instead be "strictly private matters, performed by religious and other private organizations," he wrote.

"Governments would not be asked to endorse any particular relationships by conferring on them the term marriage," added Sunstein.

Sunstein slammed current government recognition of marriage as "an official license scheme."

"When the state grants marriage it gives both maternal and symbolic benefits to the couples it recognizes. But why combine the two functions? And what is added by the term marriage?" he asked.

Hell, not a bad idea if it ends the term “alimony” as well.

Communist Goals (1963)

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

Sunstein proposed that the concept of marriage should become privatized, . . .

Exactly. Free citizens entering into whatever personal and financial and religious arrangements they freely choose.

. . . with the state only granting civil union contracts to couples wishing to enter into an agreement.

Uhhh, no. That's just a semantic change. The government has no business "granting" anybody pre-fab contracts with which to arrange their personal relationships.

I agree with this fully, Sunstein is right. Marriage, as the social and spritiual institution, should be protected by the church. Marriage as a contract is a wholly legal/civil matter, and can be administered between any two individuals, male or female. It’s radical, but it is fair, but it’ll never happen of course.

“Cass” means “cheese” in Dutch (for what that’s worth).

No marriage, then no IRS category for ‘Married, filing jointly’ - so now each couple gets to file their own tax form; and can pay more tax. No marriage, no exemptions -

With the money give-away program the Gov’t has launched on; they need to finance this in some way.

This is not necessary...straight people still have 50 percent good marriages. If it goes down to 10 percent and divorce goes to 90 percent than maybe but right now we are still majority. Although I find it disgusting that people run from one marriage to another it will always happen. If I were President, the first thing I would do is make divorce illegal...that is the degragation of the family right there...Divorce has done more to damage this country than anything else!!! Oh the second thing I would do as President is to outlaw abortion!!! After that, I would put in a flat tax of 15 percent across the board and no more...After that I would call it a day. lol.

No, this was the goal all along with the “gay marriage” push.

Abolish the family as an institution.

The Socialist Czar will be abolishing the United States of America next. Watch for it any day. Additionally, the new King of America will be crowned publicly.

Some of these things would make terrific campaign commercials for the GOP. Alas, ultimately, they’ll probably be reaching across the aisle...from the rice fields to the work camps.

Of which this is none of what you describe. It actually makes sense. The government sanctions the civil union which in reality is all it should do. The church sanctions the marriage under their doctrines, which can vary. The government is out of the marriage business.
