Gingrich: Liberal Republican 'dramatically better' than Democrat [stands by Scozzafava]
OneNewsNow ^ | 2009-10-23

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is defending his decision to endorse a liberal Republican candidate in the special election for New York's 23rd Congressional District even though she is a Margaret Sanger Award winner and supporter of same-sex "marriage."

New York Republican congressional candidate DeDe Scozzafava not only has the backing of Planned Parenthood and The Daily Kos, but her campaign has also received financial endorsements from the Republican National Committee and Republican leaders such as House Minority Leader John Boehner, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich recently said Scozzafava's election could be the start of a "new Republican Revolution" that mirrors the "1994 Republican Revolution." On the Andrew Wilkow Show Wednesday, Gingrich explained his endorsement of Scozzafava.

"She's dramatically better than the Democrat. She's not the person I would have nominated [and] she's not the person who fits my values 100 percent, but she is a heck of a lot better than the liberal Democrat," stated Gingrich. "And if you want to have a conservative majority in Washington, part of that majority's going to make you uncomfortable."

Heh. It's a common joke in manufacturing/quality seminars, that the theme "We're better than the worst" is not a winning standard to bear. In fact, it is the formula used in a spiral to the bottom.

And here's Newt, using that same time-tested LOSER of a formula, "We're better than the worst."

If I happen to wish Newt "Good luck with that," it's sarcasm. I hope Scozzafava and her supporters LOSE, and I'll say that Newt's support of this loser has further tarnished his image in my mind, as well. A two-fer!

There's a quote from Monty Python's "Life of Brian" that applies here. Accusing a witch, the John-Cleese character says, "She turned me into a newt."

Newt, if Scozzafava is a signal member of a “new Republican Revolution”, you can count me out.

The GOP first needs to show it can stand for principle.

Then, and only then, we can have a debate about who/what compromises can be made.

Newt is usually smarter than this.

He’s made the point HIMSELF that the GOP has to put forth the right candidates or we will lose the support of the base.

I’m surprised he didnt cut his losses already and realize he’s backed the wrong RINO.

Hey Newt:

“The Democrat is running to the RIGHT of Scozzafava.”
Not really, they are both liberals. The Democrat is a lock-step vote for everything Pelosi and Obama want.
Skuzzyfavor is a vote for making all these bills ‘bipartisan’ liberal cr*p.

The only conservative in the race, the only candidate worth supporting, is Doug Hoffman.

To me, if it’s only a few issues they’re left or moderate...I’m okay. I just don’t want them to have a big mouthpiece in the party. There’s a limit to how to the left they can be, though.

If the Republican party no longer stands for conservatism, then I will become and Independent and contribute and campaign for candidates that are Conservative. Not one dime of mine goes to support a RINO ever again.

So Newt is saying:

Don't get the fillet mignon, because this hot dog is much better than a pile of garbage.

I believe that Newt is on our side, but he's off base on this.

“I have supported Gingrich up and down these threads as the perfect man to be the Republican national Committee Chairman and I have even defended him as presidential timber. But this misstep reveals the Gingrich has slipped away from an understanding of what is happening on the ground in America.”

Our thoughts align completely:
1. Gingrich has in the past had a good understanding of what’s going on. I too suggested him last November for RNC chair.
2. This is a big blunder by him.
3. His thinking is ‘logical’ in that he imagine’s ‘the primary’s over’ ... what he misses is that the selection process was NOT a primary and in any case MADE THE WRONG CHOICE. Thus he makes points that are irrelevent to the real question. The RIGHT question was/is - Does Dede unify the GOP and represent our ideals, our message, and our platform in a way that can win majorities? SINCE SHE IS NOW 3RD IN THE POLLS THE CLEAR ANSWER IS “NO” AND GINGRICH IS THEREFORE FOOLISH TRYING TO FLOG A DEAD HORSE.

The GOP base has moved on from sheep-like following. They will not vote for unacceptable ‘lesser of two evil’ candidates. The real calculus for conservative is this:
- IF THE DEMOCRAT WINS NOW, WE CAN FLIP IT BACK IN 12 MONTHS AND GET A GOOD CONSERVATIVE
- IF DEDE WINS, WE HAVE A PROABORT PROGAYMARRIAGE PRO-CHECKCARD RINO THERE FOR A LONG TIME, who will get union and planned parenthood money to keep a conservative district from being represented by a conservative

If a coterie of County GOP nabobs made their choice, they may have to live with it, but voters dont.

“This battle has escalated to be about control of the soul of the Republican Party. If the Republican elites continue to govern the party against the interests of the yeomanry in the middle of the country, the party will splinter asunder and the Democrats will triumph.”
I dont think the party will splinter. I think the RINOs will get their heads handed to them. In effect, the conservatives have already “won” the battle here .. Dede WILL NOT be the next Congress-critter. WHICH MEANS THE CHOICE WAS A BAD CHOICE. ERGO, THEY SHOULD HAVE PICKED A CONSERVATIVE. QED.

They want us to help them stop Obama so they can then implement cap and trade, reform healthcare, and lose in Afghanistan. Wait...

“They want us to help them stop Obama so they can then implement cap and trade, reform healthcare, and lose in Afghanistan. Wait...”

And amnesty, don’t forget Amnesty...Gingrich is a big part of the GOP Squatter Support Squad. He banded with the biggest open borders bunch around and penned a letter to the WSJ several years ago supporting Bush’s AMNESTY. And Huckabee...he accused those of us who don’t want amnesty of being racist.
