Former GOP Leader Endorses Hoffman
Gouverneur Times ^ | Thursday, 22 October 2009 09:06

WATERTOWN, NY - Doug Hoffman, the conservative Republican candidate for Congress (NY-23), today received the endorsement of former House Majority Leader Dick Armey. Citing Hoffman’s support for “lower taxes, less government and more freedom” Armey endorsed Hoffman in front of a room filled with supporters at Hoffman’s Watertown, NY campaign headquarters. Armey, a Texas Republican, served in the House of Representatives from 1985 – 2003 and held the title of House Majority Leader from 1995-2003.

Dick Armey said: “I am endorsing Doug Hoffman in this crucial race for Congress for three very basic reasons; Doug Hoffman believes in lower taxes, less government and more freedom. He’s not a career politician; he’s private citizen who has had enough and has the courage to stand-up and take action for the good of his community and his nation. As an Army veteran, a CPA, and a small businessman Doug understands the problems that affect the voters of the 23rd Congressional District. As a husband, a father and a grandfather he realizes that if we don’t take action now, what sort of America will we have to pass on to succeeding generations. Though Doug may not be running on the Republican line, Doug is the real Republican in this race and that’s why I’m endorsing him today.

There was no primary. The party bigwigs chose the candidate

There are no decent points. She approached the Democrats first and they said no.

His only point is she has an R by her name and if we have to back Obama-clones with R’s then we will to win, thats all that matters.

NO WAY. Nothing decent about the points.

Really! Wow. Did Laura not follow up with that info then? Guess Not. Newt is a fool.

No that wasn’t his point at all. He contrasted this race with the Rubio/Crist race, where he strongly supports Rubio - in the primary. Now if Rubio wins and Crist makes a third party run as an independent moderate - it will guarantee a Democrat Senator from Florida.

Party politics runs from the bottom up. If conservatives don’t want to get involved at a local level and do the hard work to have a voice in party decisions - we’ll be consistently playing at a disadvantage.

That should be good...I hope Laura points out Newt’s endorsement of Colon Powell, his reprimand of Rush and his continued hope that Obama succeeds, as well as this ridiculous admission that he is not a conservative.

There was no primary in 23. The leftist Democrat backed by Newt was handpicked. THAT shows you where the party leadership is at. That is all we need to know about them.

That is why I am not a Republican.

“There was no primary in 23”

Yes, but there was a “process” by which the candidate was chosen. The fact that the “process” was dominated by a bunch of liberal fools is as much the fault of hand sitting conservatives in New York as it is the liberal fools themselves.

This result shows where the NY District 23 GOP leadership is - and Newt Gingrich had absolutely nothing to do with their choice.

But yet he SUPPORTS a raging leftwinger over a real conservative.

Thats the deal.

I will have nothing good to say about Newt ever again. He is MY enemy by his own choice.

She will switch parties at the first chance. Newt can go fist himself.

Anyone who would back a commicrat over a conservative is no friend of freedom. They are our enemy.

He lost me when he penned a letter to the WSJ some years ago pushing Bush’s Amnesty. Just another Rino sell out.

Well thats too bad. There was also a “process” that put Hoffman on the ballot. A conservative vs 2 leftists.

“Newt can go fist himself”

Gee, that’s helpful.

Why the outrage at Newt? He has no vote in this race. He has almost no “constituency” in the area. He can support who ever the hell he wants. Newt has made it clear he wants conservatives to re-take control of the GOP by participation, not seek victory through third party challenges.

That’s the issue that Newt is addressing, the larger strategy for conservative victories.

Given that - this race is where it is and I hope that Hoffman wins - and yes, I’ve just made a contribution to his campaign. - You ?

This is not encouraging conservatives, thats hogwash. He actively campaigned for a leftist and against a conservative. He does not want us in the GOP, RINO’s have been trying to nudge out conservatives for a long time.

Newt is not a conservative by any stretch any longer.

Conservative victories?? by supporting leftists?? You are insane. really. I hope all the conservatives in that district turn out and participate and put Hoffman into the seat. I also hope he identifies as a Conservative Party member and not a Republican Party member.

The Republican Party has nothing to offer conservatives but scorn and disdain. They have proven it time and again.

For the record I do not support third parties except in situations where a leftwing RINO is the Republican nominee, then conservatives should organize and find someone else to support.

See how much attention and money they have given Scuzzy??

They barely called Roseanne Pulido last year (Chicago) and by the time they got around to doing that she basically said “whatever” to them. The RNC has no problem ignoring good candidates and giving massive support to leftists.

The RNC needs to make statements by supporting real conservatives or it just needs to merge with the DNC and get it over with. I am not a Republican because of idiocy like this and I doubt I’ll ever join their foul nest.

“Conservative victories?? by supporting leftists?? You are insane.”

No, conservative victories by becoming active during the primary process - at the precinct and local level. That’s where you have the best chance to make your voice count.

If the conservative template is to withdraw from the Republican Party, allow party activists to nominate a leftist, and then try to “kick over the card table” by backing an independent - it’s going to elect democrats.

That was Ronald Reagan’s point when conservatives pushed for a new party in the 70’s,

FYI,
Doug Hoffman was on Glenn Beck's radio show yesterday and Glenn said he would have Hoffman on his TV show tonight.

Beck stated that it doesn't mean he endorses Hoffman, but that he would have him on his show and that the audience can decide for themselves.

This is a great opportunity for Hoffman to get some exposure!
