READY TO REVOLT: Oath Keepers pledges to prevent dictatorship in United States
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL ^ | October 18, 2009 | ALAN MAIMON

Group asks police and military to lay down arms in response to orders deemed unlawful.

Depending on your perspective, the Oath Keepers are either strident defenders of liberty or dangerous peddlers of paranoia.

In the age of town halls, talk radio and tea parties, middle ground of opinion is hard to find.

Launched in March by Las Vegan Stewart Rhodes, Oath Keepers bills itself as a nonpartisan group of current and retired law enforcement and military personnel who vow to fulfill their oaths to the Constitution.

More specifically, the group's members, which number in the thousands, pledge to disobey orders they deem unlawful, including directives to disarm the American people and to blockade American cities. By refusing the latter order, the Oath Keepers hope to prevent cities from becoming "giant concentration camps," a scenario the 44-year-old Rhodes says he can envision happening in the coming years.

"The whole point of Oath Keepers is to stop a dictatorship from ever happening here," says founding father Stewart Rhodes, an ex-Army paratrooper and Yale-trained lawyer."

"My focus is on the guys with the guns, because they can’t do it without them."

"We say if the American people decide it’s time for a revolution, we’ll fight with you."

Already there. It's our implied part of the contract for just being Americans; it is our obligation to comport ourselves just so.

Maybe not right now, but by the time this seems like a good idea, it may be too late. I like that they are getting organized now, just in case. Count me in.

This action has never been needed before president Barama. It is sad, but the reality is that Barama is only “For” some people and despises the rest of us.

If this gets much ink, look for the NY Slimes and Lindsey Graham to attack the Oath Keepers.

I agree. That's part of the purpose of the 2nd Amendment.

I agree it’s a good idea, timing is everything. Giving Obama something to rub your collective noses in with the public may not.

Danger, danger, danger — These Conservatives are dangerous.

It’s interesting that your comments are so negitive as to this working or not.

“When the people fear the government you have tyranny, when the government you have liberty. Thomas Jefferson

Tell me, which do you prefer?

>> I am not sure this is a good idea, right now.

I am interested in hearing more of your position.

Personally, I support them — may even join myself — and I think it’s a clever piece of political jiu jitsu.

A paramilitary group arming itself and talking of open revolution would, as you say, be a really BAD idea.

But this group is all about LAYING ARMS DOWN if necessary. Who should that frighten except someone who plans to USE the military and police to dictate?

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty,

If this gets much ink, look for the NY Slimes and Lindsey Graham to attack the Oath Keepers.

The founder of Oath Keepers was on Hardaball a few nights ago. Matthews very first question to him: "Do you guys have the current firepower to stand up to the federal government?"

If you recall, a few months ago the govt. came out and called "retired veterans" terrorists? And then, of course, apologized for "misspeaking." It was the Oath Keepers group they were referring to. Definitely on govt. radar. Southern Poverty Law Group is dedicating themselves to Oath Keepers destruction. The media is very aware. They just don't want to give it any more attention as they are learning when they attack these groups, it legitimizes and makes them stronger. And they're scared.
