Then they shouldn't have allowed this loser to be nominated. The Republican leadership has failed virtually EVERY crisis since 2004. Now 2010 is approaching, and they aren't even starting to get their act together.

The Democrats passed her over because they thought her brothers tax problems might affect the race. The GOP picked up their sloppy seconds.
There was no primary because she was chosen by 18 Republican County Chairmen to be the candidate.

I’m shocked. I’m hoping the only reason why he might say that is that he truly doesn’t know what kind of person Scozzafava is.
There was a poll released about a week ago. The Dem was in the lead, and the libeRal and the Conservative were behind, in that order. But Hoffman had gained 7 point in 2 weeks and was only 10 points from the lead. There was 15% or so undecided.

This race has been a money and advertising race. All three candidates have had outrageous spending on their behalf. Until the RNC and RCCC stepped up, Scozzafava was almost out of cash. Hoffman is well supported by the Club for Growth and a bunch of conservative PACs, plus a lot of small contributors (myself included).
On the issues, the district seems to favor Hoffman. He is much closer to John McHugh, the guy who won last year. And last year, McHugh carried the district with 65% of the vote. On the same ballot, McCain lost, Obama had 52%. That might have been a Conservative=Yes, RINO=No message, but the locals (and the RNC and RCCC) seem to have overlooked that possibility.
I don't see this district lurching left far enough to get Scozzafava in. Her only draw is the "R." She was doomed from day one. The question is, will she pull enough votes away from Hoffman to keep them both out? Or will she pull votes from Owens? It is going to be interesting to watch.
If Hoffman can keep 2 out of 3 McHugh voters, he probably wins. That would be how I would play it if I were making any calls.
Hoffman also has a little better ground game from what I have heard. He has a business with multiple locations in the district, and family enterprises all over the district (5 locations are his, and like 13 more in his family).
But I live in Florida, so what could I know?

It’s a special election to replace a nine-term Republican who accepted The One’s officer to become Secretary of the Army. There was no primary; Scuzzy was picked by the GOP county chaircritters in the NY 23rd to be the candidate, over Hoffman. The Rats have admitted that they looked at her, but some relatives of hers have had tax issues and they decided against her.
The important thing to remember is this—she’s not just a RINO. She is to the LEFT of the Democratic candidate for that seat on some issues! Other than a vote for Pelosi vs. Boehner for Speaker, there’s no difference between electing the Democrat and electing Scuzzy—the Rat might even be more conservative!

According to a new poll released by the Siena Research Institute, Scozzafava is losing more support each and every day, Hoffman is gaining support, and Owens is sitting silently on the sidelines letting Republicans bicker amongst themselves.
Bill Owens (D) - 33%
“Dede” Scozzafava (R) - 29%
Doug Hoffman (C) - 23%
Undecided - 15%.

I think that what was formerly known as the GOP has divided into voters, donors and volunteers without anyone to support, and a leadership without any supporters.

Good move. My Congress Critter is supposed to be at a campaign appearance for Scuzzobama this Saturday. I called her campaign office number today and told them that I would not be supporting her if she did that. I will vote against her in the primary, and if she makes it to the generaly, I will not vote for her.

About the RNC, someone on here posted that they think that the interns that open the mail only pull the checks out and throw everything else out. So in my next envelope, I will have a scanned color copy of my check to Hoffman, with my account number mangled, and the message “I donate to conservative candidates” written across the front. I figure putting this message on a “check” might get the message in front of somebody who will read it.
This is a special election to fill a vacancy. There was no primary. The county Republican chairs all met at a pizza parlor and picked Scozzafava. I’ve heard that either Dough Hoffman or one of his representatives was at that meeting, but I don’t know that for certain.

They should have. They need to be removed from the RCCC when this is done. I believe Sessions has blamed this on staffers, saying that staffers didn’t vett the candidate like they should have. Even if that is true, it just shows his incompetence. This is not a decision that should have been delegated to staffers.

New York is unusual in that it is one of few states (and maybe the only state) with a viable Conservative Party that has enough support to regularly get candidates on statewide ballots.
A lot of Republicans have a problem with this -- especially Republicans outside New York who don't need the state Conservative Party's support or endorsements in their own races.
That's the simple reason why the leadership of the GOP has cast their lot with this Sasquatch-looking loser leftist Scozzafava.
The GOP is polling well because the Dems are screwing up. But if they can manage to pull defeat from victory, as they did in the last two elections, I’m afraid they will do it.
Here they have a seat that looks like a surefire winner, and they screw it up so badly that they may lose this seat to the Democrat in a reliably Republican district.
