On the Right, an Upstate Upstart
National Review ^ | October 21, 2009 4:00 AM

The case for rallying around Dede Scozzafava, the liberal and nominal Republican seeking to represent New York’s conservative 23rd Congressional District, eludes us. Scozzafava was thrust imprudently into the nomination by upstate Republican grandees faced with a special election following Republican John McHugh’s leaving his seat to become secretary of the army. The Republicans once again have shot themselves in the right foot.

In spite of its having gone for Obama in 2008, the district’s history suggests that it is basically conservative; Ms. Scozzafava is basically not. Boy, is she not: Not only pro-choice and in favor of homosexual marriage — common if distasteful concessions to the secular liberals’ agenda — she also supports some of the most odious items on the Left’s wish-list, including the “card check” initiative that would put a big cudgel in the hands of Big Labor while effectively disenfranchising millions of American workers who may not desire to become Teamsters, SEIU members, or similar. She signed the Americans for Tax Reform pledge to oppose tax hikes but immediately declared that she was not bound by having done so. It is no surprise that she is supported by the public-employees unions, ACORN — and Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas Zúñiga. (Really.)

If this true, she is indistinguishable from a Democrat.

Conservatives SHOULD vote third party here or stay home.

Steele still doesn’t GET IT.

The RINO’s are the ones trying to divide the party, not the conservatives. The Conservatives want so much to become a real part of the party and keep finding themselves attacked from their own fellow “Republicans”.

We conservatives are actually the RINOs. The party regulars have not been conservative since the new deal. The sooner we realize that, the less we will be disappointed by what the GOP does.

Get involved locally.
Get your primaries closed.
Vote against RINOs in the primary, against Dems in the general.

repeat as necessary

The GOP is going to die. It will go the way of the Whigs and the Know Nothings.

Freedom and Patriotism on the other hand will live forever.

All good advice, but in this case there was no Republican primary, since NY law provides that in the case of special elections for the U.S. House of Representatives party nominees are selected by county chairmen of the counties in the district for each party. The ultraliberal Dede Scozzafava was thrust upon the district’s Republican voters by party hacks following orders from the RINO ex-state chairman.

Voters in the NY-23 should certainly vote against the Democrat in the general, and they should vote against the ultraliberal that doesn’t even deserve to be called a RINO as well. The candidate of the Conservative Party, Doug Hoffman, is the only Republican in the race, and he actually has a better chance of winning than Scozzafava.

I agree with you.

Reagan and Goldwater were anomalies. Nixon, Ford, Dole, McCain and the Bushes are the GOP standard. We are on our fourth utopian globalist administration in a row.

No surprise we are broke.

In addition to the above, she also has flirted with becoming a Democrat, so she is a risk to switch party's even if elected as a Republican. What a truly horrendous choice by the GOP.

I know it’ll take years, decades, to get a third party up and running. A Conservative party. But I just don’t even want to vote Republican anymore. I feel like I’m forced to choose betweel Left, and Lefter.

Can you link me up to that story? I’m curious as to what she was asked and how she responded.

“Steele still doesn’t GET IT”

This is exactly why the Republican Party is broken beyond repair. If you can't Right the ship I suggest you take to the lifeboats, we can rendezvous and form a Third Party that many Democrates would join as well. Most Democrates will never vote for a Republican for the sake of tradition.

What will it be replaced by then?

The ONLY WAY a “third party” becomes viable is in just that situation - where it displaces, and replaces, one of the two major parties.

Doug Hoffman is the Conservative alternative in this race (or Hoffman by PayPal).

Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.

Scozzafava also holds these positions:

Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.

This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat.

There are also 17 RINOs in the house who have donated funds to this LibeRal democRat's campaign. They include Boehner and Cantor. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled RINO enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year.

More threads ...
From the desk of
cc2k:
I support Doug Hoffman for Congress (PayPal).

Please, spread the word about this important election on November 3, 2009 in New York’s 23rd congressional district.
