Re: Scozzafava Campaign in Damage-Control Mode [Mark Steyn]

Well, I'm with The Weekly Standard on this one. When a GOP candidate with an entourage winds up calling the cops over a reporter from a pro-GOP publication, that's one seriously dumb campaign — and the ludicrous post-911 call spin only makes it more pathetic.

But here's my bigger thought: After the great summer surge of town halls and tea parties, the Republican Party gets to take the first electoral test of the new public mood and what does it offer the public for a reliable Republican district? A pro-tax pro-card-check liberal Republican as liberal as the liberal Democrat but, unlike the latter, unable even to articulate her positions without calling in the constabulary.

Don't expect too much from 2010. On present form, even if Obamacare leads to ebola outbreaks in 43 states, the GOP will still manage to screw it up.

No, the GOP establishment is not stupid. GOP leaders at every level of the power structure (federal, state, local) believe that conservatives are a much graver threat to their personal lifestyles than are the donks. The donks aren’t going to get in the way of their pork-riddled, lavish taxpayer- and PAC-funded back-slapping lifestyles. Conservatives will.

Oh Man! Right On. What a joke an election is anymore when the candidates are so picked over by the PTB.

They don’t call the GOP “The Stupid Party” for nothing.

I suppose its better than “The Evil Party” aka The Democrat Party.

Here's all anyone needs to know about our delightful GOP elected officials. The former Rep. in this district, John McHugh, had a nearly perfect pro-life voting record for more than a decade. In June Obama appointed him Secretary of the Army and in his final three votes on the issue he voted pro-abortion.

Nothing like integrity.

The GOP still hasn’t figured out that most of the Tea Party crowd is madder at the Republicans than the Democrats.

Well said. The Democrats scare me, the Republicans anger me.

Okay, but will you vote for McCain in 2012?

Is the party really this stupid?

Yes

The party structure is still dominated by the country club blue bloods that's why the GOP is not pulling in the money the way it use to. Sen. DeMint has created the alternative with SenateConservatives.com. All money given to it goes to conservatives not the party.

The obvious problem is that the NY state GOP professional pols decided to run this woman because she would win if nominated in a typical NY district.

The problem is this is not a typical NY district and they failed to notice that she is married to a union official of some kind, so naturally she favors card check. I suspect that she is just like Spector who ran as a Republican because their was a Dim incumbent in the first position he sought. What needs to happen is for her to be forced to stand down and the conservative put on the GOP line too.

I did not vote for McCain, either. Voted for Chuck Baldwin. No way will I vote for a Soros-funded liberal like McCain

The GOP selected Dede Scozzafava so they could have someone in the (R) column. Doug Hoffman, her opponent on the right, is a conservative in the (C) column. He’s on the November ballot, but so is the (D).

The GOP SELECTED her? Huh? This gets worse and worse. Who is she? Someone's girlfriend?

I wouldn’t want the GOP to run her in any district, no matter how liberal democrat it is. The point is that if the liberal is going to win anyway, then that electorate should be treated to a month long dose of real political insight. It might just change minds over time.

I know we can make a case for our liberal lites being better than their liberal heavies, but there is also the point of the actual legislation getting voted on.

We’ve got rinos like Snowe going for obamacare when she should be helping to make a statement. We’ve got Graham saying cap’n’trade is just fine, when he should be recognizing that it’s a monster of a anti-job tax on everyone. (Not to mention the entire carbon argument being bogus.)

It’s time to either have a conservative party or a conservative caucus within the party that is willing to run alternative candidates OVER THE OBJECTIONS of the party bosses, AND EVEN IF they have another candidate already running.

And here's what Gingrich has to say about this liberal RINO who he endorsed...

Gingrich: ‘If you seek to be a perfect minority, you’ll remain a minority’

What a jackass!!!! And where is the Newt 2012 crowd been lately?

I agree. I don’t think the GOP should ever run such a person.

But what happens ala Spector is that they run as GOP in their first race for convience. If they win they keep moving up the ranks. Maybe they were more conservative when they first ran or maybe not, but if they win they keep running for higher offices. Then if they are in a state like NY where many in the GOP are center left including most of the activists, they can get a nomination for a seat like this.

Newt should realize that there’s got to be a line someplace beyond which someone is not even remotely conservative.

It’s the same as calling a jackass a cow. They both have four legs, a tail, and eat corn. But no matter how much you argue it, or look at it from a different angle, a jackass ain’t a cow. Or an elephant.

The proper response to someone telling you a jackass is an elephant is to say, “You’re on drugs. Give me another choice.”

I think if this was a radical left district (like the one pelosi comes from) she would still be unacceptable. What's even more frustrating is this is a moderate district where someone center right could win.

This is why I do not give money to the GOP. I give to SenateConservatives.com.

If SenateConservatives is not willing to run a 2nd candidate over the objections of the party bosses, then it is lacking in insight.

“...A pro-tax pro-card-check liberal Republican as liberal as the liberal Democrat...”

There’s no such thing as a “Liberal Republican”.

There are AMERICANS....and then there are Liberals.

Send Dede D*uchebag or whatever the hell her name is packing back to the Democrat party where she belongs.

NO RINOs. Not now. Not ever again.

“..And while I’m still firmly in the ‘Reform the GOP’ camp, I can understand those who have given up on it...”

Haven’t “given up on it” - just NOT voting for any old POS RINO they throw up, thinking they have to placate the left.

The left wants to destroy this counry, us, and everything we love.

The GOP still thinks it’s a game - the dems look at it as war.

Personally, I would LOVE to see general officers like Petraus or McChrystal come back from the desert and run for office.

Make these punk criminals in the democrat shake in their commie jackboots.
