Karl Rove, former top adviser to President George W. Bush, bluntly accused President Barack Obama of deliberately "destabilizing" the government of Afghanistan, in an interview this morning on the Fox News Channel.
Rove said Obama sent Democratic party henchman James Carville to help the campaign of one of President Hamid Karzai's opponents for the August presidential election.
An article by NPR last summer says Carville's strategy was to drag the election in to a runoff to aid his candidate, former World Bank official Ashraf Ghani.
Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel made remarks this weekend that questioned whether the Obama administration would send more troops to Afghanistan if the Karzai government remained in power, reported here by Politico:
"Do you have a credible Afghan partner for this process that can provide the security and the type of services that the Afghan people need?" Emanuel said the Obama White House is asking as it conducts a strategy review before answering Gen. Stanley McChrystal's request for more troops.
Transcript (by yours truly) of Rove's comments:
Take a look at what this administration has done. They have destabilized the Afghan government by saying you know what we're not certain that Karzai is a good partner for us.
And the Obama administration sent in James Carville, Democrat party operative, in order to handle the campaign of Karzai's opponent. And then they express surprise when Karzai is trying to cut side deals with the remaining warlords and regional powers in Afghanistan in order to make certain he has a power base if the Americans pull the rug out from underneath him.
I mean its really unusual that this administration is so quick to criticize the Bush administration when they are really destabilizing the regime in Afghanistan in a fundamental way.
Don’t forget destabilizing America there Karl.
There should be serious calls for an investigation into this... We are at war with a faction in that country. Even the hint that our leaders were somehow involved in their election processes is harmful and is making us less secure.
get them all under oath now...
Traitorous Kenyan pretender!

Heres more... This is outrageous this is what the Left has accused Republicans of for years and it is on full display from their top strategists.....
Why aren’t Republicans in Congress calling for investigation into this?
Why aren’t the Press even asking Obama about this?
What is going on in America the President doesn’t even answer to the people anymore?
Strange times indeed.
I rarely use vulgarity. On the occasions I do it’s for the purpose of communicating deep feeling. I did so in this case quite purposefully.
Karl Rove and company spent the last decade practicing a form of “compassionate conservatism” towards Democrats that has cost our movement and our country MUCH.
To see the gloves of such a man come off in this way is a seminal event. There is now a political battle engaged at high levels that exceeds anything we’ve seen to date. It’s political nuclear warfare time.
And so, I make no apologies for using a bit of mild vulgarity to highlight this big news.
Wow. The Bushies are finally pissed.
The Messiah better watch out.
Sounds like Karl's laying groundwork to challenge him in '12 with Harriet Miers as his running mate.
LOL...
Hate to say it, but Karzai is much despised and hated in Afghanistan. He’s corrupt, ineffective, and has been in power too long. His loss in an election would not be a tragedy, and perhaps the opposite.
I told my trophy wife last week, that this whole Afghanistan bs was starting to stink.
At that time I didn’t realize that Asp CarVile had been in Afghanistan working to destabilize Karzai.
Apparently, Biden made a statement over the weekend that there wasn’t anything worthwhile in Afghanistan.
Doonesberry this Sunday was questioning why we should stay in Afghanistan.
I’m so glad we don’t have any relatives or friends in harms way due to the 0bamajadine thugs.
For Mr. Rove to state that Obama sent Democratic party henchman James Carville to help the campaign of one of President Hamid Karzai’s opponents for the August presidential election...
is very big news, indeed, my FRiends.
Can anyone imagine the callous and cynical minds that would undermine an election with these kinds of consequences?

This doesn’t surprise me in the least. Look at what obama did when Odinga was running. He wants to be king of the world. Delusions of grandeur, patholgical narcissism.
Something stinks about this.
Oui, I'm afraid you are likely correct.
And the unearned gift of a Nobel award probably stokes these malignant psychoses.
.
Just as Ern said and as the obamanistas are leading us into; they will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, disregard a superb general's advice, go completely backward from all their earlier rhetoric and turn the "the Stan" into another Viet Nam.
This just makes me sick. All the great sacrifice, heroism, blood and treasure, is about to be squandered and these sub-humans will "Cry havoc, and let loose the al Qaeda Dogs of War".
Rove said Obama sent Democratic party henchman James Carville to help the campaign of one of President Hamid Karzai's opponents for the August presidential election.Clinton sent Carville to get Ehud Barak elected over Benjamin Netanyahu.
Carville worked for Blair and Schroeder.
Carville worked for the Panamanian regime ready to help Clinton give China the Canal.
Carville is Asshat-Enabler Numero Uno.
This is a very interesting statement. It's true and public knowledge that Carville has worked as an advisor for one of Karzai's opponents. But it was supposedly as a private strategist. I was always a bit suspect of that, to put it mildly. But I assumed that it would be one of those cases where the powers-that-be would have "plausible deniability." If Rove has actual evidence that links Carville's work against Karzai directly to the Obama administration...wow.
OTOH, if Rove was merely throwing chum in the water...this could blunt some of the criticism against Obama and his meandering Afghanistan policies. An unprovable allegation does nothing to help the troops, and potentially undermines the case for those making legitimate criticisms - of which there are plenty to make.
I agree. I hope Rove has his battle gear ready because they are going to go after him.... big time.
In spades---no pun intended.
Excellent summary re the Evil Carvile!
