The White House escalated its offensive against Fox News on Sunday by urging other news organizations to stop "following Fox" and instead join the administration's attempt to marginalize the channel.
White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel told CNN that President Obama does not want "the CNNs and the others in the world [to] basically be led in following Fox."
Obama senior adviser David Axelrod went further by calling on media outlets to join the administration in declaring that Fox is "not a news organization."
"Other news organizations like yours ought not to treat them that way," Axelrod counseled ABC's George Stephanopoulos. "We're not going to treat them that way."
By urging other news outlets to side with the administration, Obama aides officials dramatically upped the ante in the war of words that began earlier this month, when White House communications director Anita Dunn branded Fox "opinion journalism masquerading as news."

Media columnist David Carr of the New York Times warned that the White House war on Fox "may present a genuine problem for Mr. Obama, who took great pains during the campaign to depict himself as being above the fray of over-heated partisan squabbling."
"While there is undoubtedly a visceral thrill in finally setting out after your antagonists, the history of administrations that have successfully taken on the media and won is shorter than this sentence," Carr wrote over the weekend. "So far, the only winner in this latest dispute seems to be Fox News. Ratings are up 20 percent this year."
He added: "The administration, by deploying official resources against a troublesome media organization, seems to have brought a knife to a gunfight."

Ummmm...we can do the same things.
And one of those things is to keep pumping up Fox’s ratings and spreading the ridicule like the whining baby cartoon above.
When did Hugo Chavez become special assistant to the president? (CZAR) This is right out of his playbook.
What is going on with FOX NEWS on TV?
I have seen more droputs and image distortion in the last 2 weeks, than I have in the last 2 years combined
Anyone else noticing this????
Don’t you just love Henry Payne?
Leftists also go to Fox to get the real news,
just as the politburo didn’t read Pravda to get real news -
they went to the UK news to see what was really going on in the world.
"Other news organizations like yours ought not to treat them that way," Axelrod counseled ABC's George Stephanopoulos. "We're not going to treat them that way."
What’s amazing is that Fox News is just a more balanced version of the other networks. At least on Fox you get to hear both sides. I guess the administration knows that if the American people are given all the pertinent data, they won’t go with Obama.
That’s good. They are showing everyone that they are nothing but Stalinists who suppress dissent.
Lefties inherently know their ideology is logically indefensible to “the masses”. They also inherently “know” that their ideology is superior.
Combine these two assumptions, and you get the “need” to silence any opposition to their ideology. They are NOT going to debate their ideology and “lose”.
Just a few short months ago the Government was bad and our rights were being trampled...now the lefties are suddenly blind to government intervention.
RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy.
Hmmm, haven’t these people heard of a thing called the First Amendment?
If they showed honest criticism of the Whitehouse, they might start getting moderate and conservative viewers, who - do to inquisitive minds- tend to watch more news.
That’s true.
Except even with the focus on FOX News as a story it backfires in part because people check them out and get to hear about the bills anyway. I’m still not convinced driving people to check out sources of opposition where they’ll be “enlightened” with an another opinion is a good tactic.
I guess they want to prejudice moderates against listening to them, but they already think FOX has a bias. The WH’s trouble is that they think all news organizations have a bias. I don’t think this atack on FOX will change that mindset.
Myself, I see FOX as more moderate, slightly Left at time’s and balanced at others by commentators such as Hannity and maybe Glenn. More than that I see it as a business. If this suddenly didn’t sale for Murdock, they’d change their partisan bent. Really if Obama wants to destroy the current makeup of FOX news all he has to do is show Murdock it’s more profitable to give a solid Leftward bias. He’s not a conservative. All he cares about is money. I know the other networks have decided profit isn’t important but Mordock believes differently.
It is a blind FAITH. They are humanists, don’t forget that. They worship infallible “elite” humans just as Christians worship God.
Questioning their motives or methods would be like questioning God’s will.
Thanks for the ping!
No they aren’t pretending.
I have said and have read a hundred times that once Obama senses failure (which is inevitable considering his outrageously bad leadership) he will lash out and become autocratic.
Obama is a failure, and the screaming has just begun.
