ALBANY, N.Y. President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton are lending their political star power to an unlikely Democratic bid to win a special congressional election in an area that's been a Republican bastion for more than a century.
The Nov. 3 contest in upstate New York's 23rd Congressional District, a sprawling, 11-county area where registered Republicans outnumber Democrats by 45,000, is shaping up as a test of a struggling GOP and a possible gauge of Obama's coattails.
<snip>
Democrats see an opening in the traditionally Republican district because Scozzafava and Hoffman are splitting the conservative vote.

I think this race is an important test for the TEA Party movement, the 9-12ers and conservative grass roots. It is an opportunity for us to send a strong message to the RNC and RCCC. We need to push Hoffman to victory. If we do this, we have a stronger position to “clean up&rdquo the Republican party and return it to core principles and conservative positions and candidates. If Hoffman fails, the RINO leadership will blame this on conservatives, not on their own foolishness in selecting a candidate who is too liberal to hold the Republican base.
Please, send Hoffman a donation. I wish we would get behind him as strongly as we got behind Joe Wilson last month.
Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.
Scozzafava also holds these positions:
Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.
This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” democRat.
There are also 17 RINOs in the house who have donated funds to this Liberal democRat's campaign. They include Boehner and Cantor. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These RINOs should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year.

The Republican Party and the Conservative Party in District 23 need to sit down and work out a deal.
True on all points - that is your comment, not the SRM propaganda.
The worst this that could happen is Scozzafava wins. After all, if the donk wins, what difference will it make in the House? Of course Hoffman wining would be best!
Funny, how the Virginia and New Jersey governors’ races aren’t the measuring stick of how well the GOP is doing...
Dede Scozzafava takes NO conservative votes, though she may seriously split the REPUBLICAN vote.
Once again, Resident (Pres_ent) Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., or Barry Soetoro, or Mr Michelle Robinson, or Sock-Puppet, supposedly the son of an out-of-control teenager and a Kenyan exchange student, has managed to eke a vote out of a district where once even “blue-dog” was a dirty word.
All is not lost. Possibly, the conservative, Doug Hoffman, culd still pull this one out of the fire.
After all, he is not Ross Perot.
Hoffman winning would be good for his district and his vote. And if it taught a lesson to the Pubbie establishment, that’d be good too.
But if it doesn’t change the minds of the Pubbie establishment, on one hand, and it inspires a bigger third-party movement on the other—now that would be a disaster.
It’s really a bad situation all around, I’m afraid.
Not really a test of much of anything with a GOP candidate who holds most of the positions of a liberal Dim.
I wonder if this will be the strategy for 2012.
Have Soros bankroll a RINO, a third party erupts, and Baraq wins with 42% like Clinton.
Minor league propagandist.
Like Goebbels said, bad propaganda be ineffective.
The important thing is not to find people who agree with me about every theoretical jot and tittle, but rather that I find people who are willing to fight with me for a worldview. Winning people over to something that I have recognized as right, that is what we call propaganda. At first there is knowledge; it uses propaganda to find the manpower that will transform knowledge into politics. Propaganda stands between the idea and the worldview, between the worldview and the state, between the individual and the party, between the party and the nation. At the moment at which I recognize something as important and begin speaking about it in the streetcar, I begin making propaganda. At the same moment, I begin looking for other people to join me. Propaganda stands between the one and the many, between the idea and the worldview. Propaganda is nothing other than the forerunner to organization. Once it has done this, it is the forerunner to state control. It is always a means to an end.
In other words, there is no ABC of propaganda. One can make propaganda, or one cannot. Propaganda is an art. Any reasonably normal person can learn to play the violin to a certain degree, but then his teacher will say: "This is as far as it goes. Only a genius can learn what remains. You are not a genius, so be content with what you have learned." I can certainly teach any reasonable person the absolute basics of propaganda. But I will soon recognize the limits. One is either a propagandist, or one is not.
Let the Wookie (Democrat) win. We are better off with a Rat than a Kos-endorsed Specter-clone.
We are better off with the rat winning(if Hoffman doesnt win that is). It is time to stop putting these spector/snowe people in just for the gop name
Let the Dem win. Screw it. He’s only in there for a year. And he’ll get wiped out in ‘10 by Hoffman (without a RINO to split vote).
Yes, a third party movement arising to split the vote on the right is the real danger here.
I don't know, but I do worry about a scenario, similar to 2008, that would give us three or four Republican primary candidates perceived as conservatives, that would split the conservative votes as in 2008 and give us a RINO candidate, maybe Pawlenty.
Conservatives should never forget that blue states can pick the Republican nominee, and likely will if conservative votes are split among three or four candidates.
Yes, history doesn’t suggest that the squishy, big-government, RINO Republican Establishment changes its approach from a conservative winning an election or two.
Just like Reagan and the Reagan voters in 1980, the Republican Party will have to be taken back by the force of the conservative message being taken directly to the voters and winning elections. But that has to be done within from within the Republican Party, not by yet another third-party effort that’d only rightly thrill the Democrats.
Best lesson from this race would be for the conservatives to take back the Republican Party, not try to circumvent it.
And the opportunity you see is what—strengthening the third-party movement, or convincing the Republican Establishment to suddenly turn right?
Do you have any evidence Soros is backing anyone in this race?
Yes, if conservatives had been as enthusiastic in their support for reforming the Republican Party in New York as they are now for Hoffman’s third party candidacy, he would be the GOP nominee now against the Democrat with no other to siphon off support. It would be a landslide victory.
