Rev. Al Sharpton threatens to sue Rush Limbaugh over Wall Street Journal op-ed

The Rev. Al Sharpton is ready for a Rush to judgment.

The civil rights leader, typically impervious to insults, said Saturday that he will sue Rush Limbaugh for defamation unless he gets an apology from the right-wing radio host.

Sharpton was outraged by a Limbaugh op-ed piece in The Wall Street Journal that blamed him for the 1991 Crown Heights riot and a 1995 killing spree at a Harlem store.

"I am definitely going to prove he makes reckless, unaccountable statements," Sharpton said. "Which is why he was forced out of buying an NFL team in the first place."

Limbaugh lashed out at Sharpton over the right-wing radio host's failed attempt to purchase a piece of the St. Louis Rams. Sharpton, among others, blasted Limbaugh's bid for NFL ownership.

Limbaugh replied in his op-ed piece that Sharpton "played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot ... and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot."

Seven people were killed by a gun-toting man who set a fire in the Freddie's Fashion Mart. A Jewish scholar was stabbed to death in Crown Heights three hours after a 7-year-old black boy was fatally struck by a car.

Slanderous, according to Sharpton, who denied both allegations.

"He doesn't have the right to lie and accuse people of crimes," Sharpton said. "He wants to criminalize me.

"That's what got him in trouble. He tried to criminalize the NFL players, calling them Crips and Bloods."

The hard-line conservative also mentioned Sharpton's wrongful accusations in the Tawana Brawley case, and the reverend's "blind hatred" - although Sharpton took no issue with those remarks.

Limbaugh was unavailable for comment Saturday.

As I have said repeatedly, I do NOT think Rush wants to get involved in any legal actions against anyone. During the deposition process, it’s too easy to introduce irrelevant questions that might come back to haunt Rush (re: drug stuff). I keep thinking of Alger Hiss, and how he sued for libel and ended up exposing HIMSELF to real charges of perjury related to his treason. In short, I think Rush wants to stay as far away from a courtroom as possible. Obviously, if he wants to bait Rev. Al into this, he has a strategy to expose Al in the same way, and Sharpton would likewise be a fool to get anywhere near a courtroom.

Where did Sharpton attend school to become a minister?

From Wikipedia:

Sharpton was licensed and ordained a Pentecostal minister by Bishop F.D. Washington at the age of nine or ten.

He attended Brooklyn College, dropping out after two years in 1975.

What school did Bishop F.D. Washington graduate from before becoming a Bishop.These facts are sort of sparse on Wikipedia.

Rush said early last week that he would consider bringing legal action. didn’t hear him say that again, though, for the rest of the week. Maybe he weighed the pros and cons and decided against that option.

the side of the one telling the truth or the side of the one telling lies?

Knowing the media and the democrats they will take the side of the liars. Then attempt to spin it for votes for sommunism.

Exactly. Roy Black probably called and said, “No you won’t!” Roy knows that anything can happen once you get into these situations, and you don’t want Sharpton’s attys to begin bringing in the housekeepers and yardmen, and so on from the 1990s.

I am still perplexed that the Twana Brawly hoax gave Sharpton prominence as a black spokesman. Sharpton knew all along it was a hoax and it was proved in court that he was part of the conspiracy to make these false accusations.

Al better shut up while he can! He is heading for really deep water!

So far, everyone who has gone after Rush has come away licking their wounds.

Yeah, it could turn into a real mess I guess. What was interesting is that on Friday (I think it was) he talked about how grateful he was for all the emails of support, and he said that people were encouraging him to do two things — to sue the media people who used the quotes, and to go after Sharpton. He went on for a few minutes about Sharpton — he basically said to be patient — but he was conspicuously silent on the question of whether he planned to sue. He brought it up but never addressed it. Rush never does anything without a reason, especially after he’s had a few days to think about it, so I’m guessing he let the possibility that he’d sue stay “out there” — kind of as a threat, maybe to scare people into issuing retractions — but with no intention of actually doing it at that point.

Forced out by reckless, unaccountable statements made by Sharpton and others. What's good for the goose is good for the gander as well.

Sharpton is a race-baiting fraud who’s never held a real job in his life.

"He doesn't have the right to lie and accuse people of crimes," Sharpton said.

It's Sharpton who has a history of Lying and accusing other people of crimes.

Sharpton is so thin-skinned he can take off his shirt, lean his bare back up against a limestone wall, and literally stuck calcium carbonate into his bloodstream.

Isn't that rather sociopathic ~ going to see a very injured person in a hosptial (after he's had a substantial lineage in his bowels "rebuilt" and talk him into changing his story?

Sharpton is a politician. Psychologist Robert Hare came up with the concept of the “functional psychopath”—one of the most destructive personalities in society. These people have the malignant traits of a criminal psychopath but are functional enough to avoid most conflicts with authorities.

According to Hare:

“Too many people hold the idea that psychopaths are essentially killers or convicts. . .psychopaths can be entrepreneurs, politicians, CEOs and other successful individuals who may never see the inside of a prison and who don't commit violent crimes. However. . .They exploit people and leave them depleted and much the worse for the encounter. They prove to be treacherous employees, conniving businessmen, or immoral officials who use their position to victimize people and enrich themselves.”

Some of the traits these people exhibit include:

* lack of remorse or empathy
* shallow emotions
* manipulativeness
* lying
* egocentricity
* glibness
* low frustration tolerance
* episodic relationships
* parasitic lifestyle
* persistent violation of social norms

These features fit a lot of politicians—Clinton, Ted Kennedy, John Edwards, and many Republicans as well. Psychopaths are motivated by an obsession for power.
Dr. Hare has several books on this subject. Here's a link but if you google Dr. Robert Hare or functional psychopath
you'll get a lot of data.
