I've read a lot about this upcoming James Cameron flick. It seems the budget for this thing is $300 million. The plot is about a disabled veteran that has a copy of himself living on a moon inhabited by blue aliens.

All of the articles I've read about this movie claim that it will be a mega-budget blockbuster that will revolutionize Hollywood with its visuals and effects. I'm less optimistic. For all the special effects, the plot just sound DUMB.

Dances with Wolves... IN SPACE!

The cost to produce movies has gotten out of hand. Time for Hollywood to dial down more than just a tad.

Just from the previews I have seen, it looks like it has the typical anti military/establishment bent to it.

I might be wrong.

Well, frankly I never had any desire to see “Titanic,” so I doubt whether I’ll go see this. I’m an SF fan, but not a big budget Hollywood SF fan.

I’d rather get my copy of Blade Runner out again.

It sounds like a Kurt Vonnegut book... Interesting but not really.

This has all the stench of a story that’s been kicking around in the back of the writer’s head for a long time in the bad way. Sometimes that makes a story very well developed (like Bab 5), but most of the time it turns the story into an exercise of self pleasuring. I like Cameron, I really like Cameron, for years I’ve been begging him to leave the Titanic behind and come back to his roots and do some some SF, unless this movie turns out vastly different from how he himself describes it there’s no way I’m watching it. Just sounds painfully stupid. Plus of course he’s gotten addicted to 3D and I hate 3D movies.

Looks like World of Warcraft met Starcraft. The trailer was pretty underwhelming.

It looks like a bad cross between the movie Fern Gully and the Halo videogame. Can’t wait for more anti-military drivel. Not.

Cool sci-fi concept wrapped around a “Military and Humans are bad” subtext.

The plot seems to be a typical “going native” story.

Told correctly it needn’t be a condemnation of the invading culture, but given the ‘mood’ of Hollywood these days, I don’t expect the humans come off well.

“Humans from Earth”

ignore the silly star trek.

OK , they lost me at the ‘disabled vet’ in a wheel chair while everyone else was fighting with mecha....

OTOH, the visuals may make it worth the price of a cheap seat - we have a movie house in town that shows movies just before release on DVD for $3 all shows.

Not a bad deal if you skip the $11 a bucket popcorn....

It’ll probably be the biggest blockbuster since “Heaven’s Gate” and “Ishtar”.

All the “gee whiz” special effects in the world won’t save a movie if it doesn’t have an interesting plot and a decent script.
