BUSAN, South Korea (AFP) – Hollywood producer Jon Landau said Friday he had no doubt that his latest feature with "Titanic" director James Cameron would live up to its billing as the year's most-anticipated film.

The 300-million-dollar "Avatar", packed with computer-generated imagery and 3-D effects, is the pair's first project together since scooping 11 Oscars with "Titanic" in 1998.

I've read a lot about this upcoming James Cameron flick. It seems the budget for this thing is $300 million. The plot is about a disabled veteran that has a copy of himself living on a moon inhabited by blue aliens.

All of the articles I've read about this movie claim that it will be a mega-budget blockbuster that will revolutionize Hollywood with its visuals and effects. I'm less optimistic. For all the special effects, the plot just sound DUMB.

Dances with Wolves... IN SPACE!

The cost to produce movies has gotten out of hand. Time for Hollywood to dial down more than just a tad.

Just from the previews I have seen, it looks like it has the typical anti military/establishment bent to it.

I might be wrong.

Well, frankly I never had any desire to see “Titanic,” so I doubt whether I’ll go see this. I’m an SF fan, but not a big budget Hollywood SF fan.

I’d rather get my copy of Blade Runner out again.

Paranormal Activity, #4 right now, cost 11k to make.

It sounds like a Kurt Vonnegut book... Interesting but not really.

....I know what you mean....over a quarter century later it still holds up as revolutionary....and BTW I could show you street scenes at night in Washington DC that look like they’re straight out of the director’s cut.

This has all the stench of a story that’s been kicking around in the back of the writer’s head for a long time in the bad way. Sometimes that makes a story very well developed (like Bab 5), but most of the time it turns the story into an exercise of self pleasuring. I like Cameron, I really like Cameron, for years I’ve been begging him to leave the Titanic behind and come back to his roots and do some some SF, unless this movie turns out vastly different from how he himself describes it there’s no way I’m watching it. Just sounds painfully stupid. Plus of course he’s gotten addicted to 3D and I hate 3D movies.

Looks like World of Warcraft met Starcraft. The trailer was pretty underwhelming.

Most movies are done for under $30 mil, heck most are under $10. But this is an intended blockbuster, they like to spend a lot on movies they think will make a lot.

It looks like a bad cross between the movie Fern Gully and the Halo videogame. Can’t wait for more anti-military drivel. Not.
