California posted higher-than-expected job losses in September, a sign that the state's employment woes continue even amid signs of a broader economic recovery.
Employers cut 39,000 workers from their payrolls last month, according to figures released this morning by the state Employment Development Department. That's more than five times the number of jobs that state officials now say California lost in August, led by cuts in construction and government.
A separate survey of joblessness showed that California's unemployment rate was 12.2% in September, down from a revised 12.3%. The unemployment rate in September 2008 was 7.8%.
Los Angeles County's unemployment rate soared to 12.7%, up from 12.2% the previous month. Orange County's jobless rate was 9.4% in September, down from a revised 9.8% in August.

And yet some freepers are still advocating we elect RINOs in "blue states" today so we can "win".
Slow learners, aren't they?
Ain't they??
I think the good times will hit right around the second week in November 2010 LOL
Must be something in the water... or the wine. ;-)
I remember all the conservative commentators pushing the CA recall(which I opposed) and cheering on Arnie. Just like they all did with GWB.
The lone voice of sanity on both Arnold and Bush was Micheal Savage
we’re gonna need a bigger socialist mop.

Look! It's some Californians off to find a better life in Oklahoma!
...........they’re just doing the jobs Americans won’t do!!!!!
Why would you oppose getting rid of Gray Davis?
Arnie was not a leader of the California Recall. He and his backers climbed on the bandwagon at the very end and pushed the grassroots organizers off.
It does NOT feel too good being a part of that 13%.
That’s nothing. It’s 15.3% in Michigan.
All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray......
. . . even amid signs of a broader economic recovery.
The Times continues to spin like a gyroscope.
Aaaaaaahnold is terrible, but Davis was worse. I know it’s hard to imagine but it’s true.
works out fine here in la-la land. Less people in the shops and subway means more time to get things done..
As I write this, Union getting layoff notices. Management (me) to follow. California / Manufacturing = going extinct.
