The "Homecoming Queen" at a traditionally black US university has sent a letter to President Barack Obama, complaining that her win had been questioned on campus because she is white.
But after her letter riled students at Hampton University in Virginia, beauty pageant winner Nikole Churchill issued a public apology, saying she had taken "the comments of a few and blew them out of all proportion."
Churchill, a tall, raven-haired woman who, like Obama, grew up in Hawaii, wrote to the president after winning her university's beauty pageant last week.
"It would be much easier to say that possibly some were not accepting of the news because I wasn?t the most qualified contestant; however, the true reason for the disapproval was because of the color of my skin. I am not African American," the nursing student wrote to the president.
She asked the president for help, suggesting that he visit Hampton University to convince students to "stop focusing so much on the color of my skin and doubting my abilities to represent, but rather be proud of the changes our nation is making towards accepting diversity.

Don't hold your breath.
In further news, Bill Clinton has stepped in and offered to hold a “beer summit” with her at his office apartment in Harlem.
Well, I mean, if Zero can get that kid out of the balloon from 10,000 feet, certainly he can send a gift-basket to her or something to make it all better.
How did they pick the Queen?
If it was by student vote, they scarcely have reason to complain.
I’m surprised the college didn’t award the beauty queen title to Obama by default.
Check out the 'tudes the two girls on her left (pic right) are showing off.
Rules...
Colonel, USAFR
How the heck did she get picked anyway? The article says she is not a resident student, attends a satellite campus and is not even active in student life. I thought those were the people selected for homecoming king & queen?
I can understand why other students questioned the choice. Wonder who made up the selection committee.
She sounds like a whiner to me.
By that picture, they certainly made the right choice.
Deal with it, honky.
Sincerely,
The Historic President
Of course not, she's the one wearing the crown and the Miss Hampton University sash. :)
I noticed the ‘tudes on the girls on her left, as well, especially the one closest to her. I'm afraid to even try captioning that expression. The girl on her right looks very pleasant and gracious, though.
Do “beauty queens” usually write letters to the President?
What is the point of a college having a “beauty pageant” anyway? Shouldn’t they go back to teaching global warming?
Will Al “The Graft Zeppelin” Sharpton fly to her aid?
She’s not very bright. Doesn’t she know that white people can’t play the race card?
dude... did this pageant not have a “nun uv da abov?” choice?
If they are grouped in order of winning, then if this had been at a white school, the charge would have been about racism, noting that as the girls got closer to victory, they got more white.
Alright now,,, who’s going to hit what?
eeeks...
