The father of the 6-year-old Colorado boy who was thought to have been speeding through the sky for hours in a high-soaring homemade helium balloon is a self-described "storm chaser" who now finds himself at the center of another kind of squall.

A Foxnews.com search of public records revealed that [Richard] Heene, 48, and his wife, Mayumi, owe thousands of dollars in connection to a company called My-You-Me Productions. Prior to moving to Colorado, Heene and his wife were aspiring actors in Los Angeles who met at an acting school, a source told Foxnews.com.
The state of California filed a $5,812 tax lien against Heene in 1993, and records show a small-claims judgment of $5,000 was filed against him in Los Angeles County in 2006. County tax liens totaling roughly $2,000 were found in connection to the production company, which is now known as Alternate Reality Productions, according to productionhub.com.
Heene, of Fort Collins, Colo., reportedly began his amateur scientific research in 2002 with lab experiments and then moved on to dust devils in California before flying a plane around Hurricane Wilma's perimeter in 2005.
His neighbor, Bob Licko, said he frequently sees the father of three working in the garage on various scientific projects, including a "flying saucer" and a machine that "puts out more power than it uses." Licko said it's apparent Henne loves delving into scientific endeavors.
Licko said the Henne family is "a bit" unconventional, but he said he's never felt his three young sons -- Falcon, Ryo and Bradford -- were in any danger from their father's experiments.
"[Heene] runs a loose ship for the boys and lets them do their own thing," Licko said. "But regardless of the way he raises his boys, ... [He and his wife] care a great deal for their children."

Californians, figures...
He's the perfect democrat as long as he doesn't pay.
Funny how quickly the left-wing media can find information on these two people who are technically nobody’s and can’t find any information on Obama. Well, maybe I should rephrase it to “won’t” find.
The ACORN Academy of Grifting Arts and Sciences?
Why weren’t his kids in school? Or does this wierd family homeschool their kids?
The shame of it all is that we were glued here, as it was happening, while we were watching the news. Such sympathy was felt for this young boy and his family. Things like this make people not care about anyone. We will probably be thinking twice, the next time this happens.
I was glued here for an hour. One person kept insisting for us to do the math..this thing couldnt support the kids weight, but we all ignore this persons knowledge. We should have paid him more attention..because he was probably right.
These people are sick..if this was planned. How stupid for them to think a 6 year old innocent baby, wouldnt blow the whistle on them.

Trying to invent a flying saucer and a perpetual motion machine. I suspect he may have used hallucinatory drugs once or twice that muddled his brain. Clearly a few neurons aren't connecting.
I believe the kid pulled off this ruse.
If he did, and were he my child, I would not spare the rod
Speaking of sick, when the kid was asked questions on both GMA and the Today Show he got sick as if on cue. Poor kid is being taught how to lie but obviously hasn't quite got it quite right yet. Reminds me of that movie with Ryan and Tatum O'Neal, Paper Moon, where the kid goes around during depression days telling a story of woe so that they can scam honest, caring people out of their scarce cash.
Have not seen that one, got a link?
Some kind of day off for the local schools.
My-You-Me? Same pronounciation as his wife’s name???
