Storm-Chasing Father of 'Balloon Boy' at Center of New Storm
Fox News Channel ^ | October 16, 2009 | Fox News

Posted on 10/16/2009 8:44:06 AM PDT by CedarDave

The father of the 6-year-old Colorado boy who was thought to have been speeding through the sky for hours in a high-soaring homemade helium balloon is a self-described "storm chaser" who now finds himself at the center of another kind of squall.

~~snip~~

A Foxnews.com search of public records revealed that [Richard] Heene, 48, and his wife, Mayumi, owe thousands of dollars in connection to a company called My-You-Me Productions. Prior to moving to Colorado, Heene and his wife were aspiring actors in Los Angeles who met at an acting school, a source told Foxnews.com.

The state of California filed a $5,812 tax lien against Heene in 1993, and records show a small-claims judgment of $5,000 was filed against him in Los Angeles County in 2006. County tax liens totaling roughly $2,000 were found in connection to the production company, which is now known as Alternate Reality Productions, according to productionhub.com.

Heene, of Fort Collins, Colo., reportedly began his amateur scientific research in 2002 with lab experiments and then moved on to dust devils in California before flying a plane around Hurricane Wilma's perimeter in 2005.

His neighbor, Bob Licko, said he frequently sees the father of three working in the garage on various scientific projects, including a "flying saucer" and a machine that "puts out more power than it uses." Licko said it's apparent Henne loves delving into scientific endeavors.

Licko said the Henne family is "a bit" unconventional, but he said he's never felt his three young sons -- Falcon, Ryo and Bradford -- were in any danger from their father's experiments.

"[Heene] runs a loose ship for the boys and lets them do their own thing," Licko said. "But regardless of the way he raises his boys, ... [He and his wife] care a great deal for their children."

Yes, that man sounded like he knew exactly what was going on. I figured he was probably right because he laid out the figures on the radio. People who don’t know what they’re talking about tend to speak in generalities.

The reason the whole family knew the kid wasn’t in the baloon was it was filled with helium, second they knew the basket they made, to hold a passenger, to hang below the baloon was not attached to the craft and finally the kid let the fact slip that it was a “SHOW” meaning it was staged for publicity. Three strikes and they go to jail.

The father was being described as a “retired weatherman” yesterday. No mention of that in this article, which seems to say they’ve spent their time trying to become actors. - I thought he looked too young to be retired from anything.

From the article, here's his connection to that:

Heene's business partner, Scott Stevens, said he was a radio show host when he met Heene, and he said he liked his hands-on approach to research. Stevens has a degree in broadcast meteorology; Heene has no professional science training.

It's beginning to remind me of that old Harrison Ford movie, Mosquito Coast, where the father is an eccentric inventor and hauls his family off to Central America to build an ice making machine for the primitive Indians.

Maybe BO can give this loon a Nobel Prize for Physics—and make him Secretary of the Air Force, to boot.

” A Colorado sheriff’s official says a 6-year-old boy climbed into a box that was attached to a homemade balloon, but the box wasn’t found when the craft crashed.
Kathy Messick, Larimer County sheriff’s spokeswoman, says one of the boy’s brothers saw him get into the box or basket,
which was attached with pegs. “

” Somebody “ told the Sheriff’s Dept that there was a passenger basket attached , with some specificity .
The video clearly shows the parents were obviously aware that no basket was attached.
I find it incredible to believe that the LEO didn’t ask the parents over and over to describe the basket.
The parents must have seen the video on tv -where did they think the kid was hiding ?
The mylar was clearly intact from all angles.
Even at lift off.
Somebody punked the Colorado Sheriff’s Dept

” maybe child protective services “
I didn’t see this, but, my wife said that either the father or one of the neighbors said that
the kids “ were on the roof videotaping “ just before
the balloon took off.

The kids weren’t in school due to a teacher workday.

Ironic — a teacher workday involves keeping the kids OUT of school.

"Prior to moving to Colorado, Heene and his wife were aspiring actors in Los Angeles who met at an acting school, a source told Foxnews.com."

Which does make you stop and think about the acting job in the call to 911. Lots of people are saying that this can't be a hoax because they sounded so upset on the phone. After deliberating his interviews afterward, I really suspect that this whole thing was planned.

In one of the first media availabilities, Heene clutches his son and acts pretty relieved, but closer examination of the statements he made shows that he gets in every possible plug for his "inventions".

Color me extremely skeptical at this time.

maybe child protective services will take a look at these folks to see if they placed any of the children in danger with their hauling them out of bed to "storm chase" tornadoes and hurricanes.

No real conservative would cheer that.

Falcon, Ryo, and Bradford? Poor kids. I guess I should never again complain about Trig, Track, and Bristol.

Kicko has it wrong "Licko said the Henne family is "a bit" unconventional"

The rule is "I describe myself as unconventional. My friends and neighbours are eccentric. Anyone else is a barking moonbat"
