Paging Congressman Alan Grayson! Here is a quote that validates what you said about those EVIL Republicans:
"We're going to have to, if you're very old, we're not going to give you all that technology and all those drugs for the last couple of years of your life to keep you maybe going for another couple of months. It's too expensive...so we're going to let you die."
Aha! So it turns out that Grayson was right when he said "Republicans want you to die quickly." Only one "little" problem here. That quote did not come from a Republican. In fact it came from the very liberal former Labor Secretary Robert Reich who is now an economics adviser for Barack Obama.

Second time this year that your humble correspondent made it onto the august pages of the Wall Street Journal.
p.s. And I'm still wondering if Robert Reich will ever come up with an explanation for his own words. Oh, and he was NOT kidding.

So far there are two comments about your piece. They both support Reich’s opinion!

Reich is obviously not an expert on health care. For instance, innovation in the pharmaceutical industry usually means merely creating a "me-too" drug in order to extend patent life. Very few drugs amount to any sort of true innovation with breakthroughs. This may be more true as regards devices and technology. However it is interesting that even though we have seen extensive innovation in these fields we still do not extend life much, nor alleviate pain and other morbidity symptomogy. The only things that really affect our health come down to wellness programs (eating healthy, exercising), sanitation (washing hands), vaccinations, and antibiotics. And this may strike some as harsh, but is it a good idea to shove money at a problem such as how do we extend life a few more months? Maybe as a society it is time to grow up. Here is the first comment on the article. BTW - Congrats PJ.
IO don't have an account and won't sign up. Somebody respond to Jonathon. He questions innovations and technologies in the medical industry? Wow. Ironically, his comments suggests he has no problem of cutting back expenditures where the return on the money is not enough, ie - extending the life of old people.
I bet Jonathon is all for the cap and tax expenditures that will have little to no effect on the global temperature of the planet. I guess his motto would be, "Let old people die by not spending money on them but save the planet with a global ponzi scheme."

Someone posted a picture of Reich's face in the Travelocity character's body with the cone hat on Freepers not to long ago, and I just cannot get the image out of my mind when talking about Reich. So So funny! Wish they would post it again or every time Reich's name comes up. It fits his image perfectly.
