Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

He’s in the woods tryin to remember the lines his Daddy wrote for him.
Yes, I saw it afterward.
That thing on the bottom was fully enclosed..no way could he have fallen out.
Some people in Laramie County said they saw something fall out. There is a hatch door in the gondola.
It was bobbing too easily in the video to be carrying a 60-70 pound weight. Thered have been some obvious inertia effects where the kid was situated in the plywood platform.

Might be right on that.
Smith is more than an Idiot! Gawd I hate that heshe.
That is my hope too: that the kid is hiding somewhere. If parents and all are with the police, maybe he’s at home hiding under the bed wondering where his whole family is.
No, they write the laws and make themselves exempt.
However, these parents who did “Wife Swap” were responsible for their child and it appears that the child is may be dead.
Charge them with a crime no matter what the condition of the child may be.
Why the Crime Scene Tape, Folks??
The brother said he was in the balloon when it took off and apparently the sheriff’s investigators were convinced- the cardboard part that should have been attached is missing- as is the boy at present.
My husband once hid from his aunt who was babysitting him. When he realized how upset she was that he could not be found, he stayed hidden longer! A memorable event in his life. He still feels sorry for having caused her so much grief. It happened over 50 years ago.
Palldin, I hate to differ with you...but we raised two boys. Our youngest would have definitely pulled something like this. His son, now 6, spent the summer with us. Not only would our grandson have taken off in the balloon, he would have built it first, given the science and supplies. True, we did keep an extra eye on both of them...but still...kids are kids, and some are much more daring than others.
I seriously doubt the boy was in the balloon. The balloon didn’t even look like it could carry 40-50lbs of weight.
orrr...the kid was driven to a spot...they told him...when the authorities find him...he is to tell them he fell out of a balloon he was never in?
I think this is staged...
So they think he jumped out? If he did they are saying he would have had to do that very very early..or it doesnt look good.
Top marks to the kid if he stuffed a mannequin in it and hid.
That is what I have been waiting to hear. It is the type of thing people would have been staring at.
