Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

I'm really wondering now about the older brother's repeated (according to LEO spokesman) assertion that he was in the balloon.
Apparently the brothers said he climbed into the balloon...Don't know...
Nobody was hurt....The whole thing is kind of funny now....lol
The Denver tv station just reported it a few minutes ago—Drudge is slow today! :-)
It’s all over now but notice that the 7 balloons did not take off at 5,500 ft.
I have this theory that he and his brother were trying to get the thing in the air, but when they loosened the tie downs, it just sat there and then when the kid jumped out, it took off and so did he.
One day, the phone rang, and a little boy answered.
“May I speak to your parents?”
“They’re busy.”
“Oh. Is anybody else there?”
“The police.”
“Can I speak to them?”
“They’re busy.”
“Oh. Is anybody else there?”
“The firemen.”
“Can I speak to them?”
“They’re busy.”
“So let me get this straight — your parents, the police, and the firemen are there, but they’re all busy? What are they doing?”
“Lookin for me”
Where I live, kids do stuff like this everyday. Usually involving heavy equipment or trucks, not balloons.
Funny question is how much money and time today was spent on little Falcon, and do you really think there is pre-meditaded hoax here?
It looks at this point. Things could changes as more info comes in.
As Neil said, “It is about time to call all the boys together and have a little talk”
I agree....this was a set up for publicity. it all doesn’t add up.
How long until the family appears on Oprah?
I don’t really care if it doesn’t add up; the boy is OK.
Now, time to punish the kid for scaring the Hell out of everyone. I’ll bring the belt.
How right you are. A diversion for his debacle in New Orleans. And off to San Fran for a fund raiser. Good god, Molly, what’s wrong with this picture? I doubt many see it. I’m gonna beat Rush on the plane to New Zealand. He’ll have to buy property from me.
Isn’t THAT the truth?
Man, oh MAN what a relief!
Cute joke
It’s going to be interesting to hear the full story on this. It cost a lot of money chasing that empty balloon around.
Has anyone checked to see if Eric Holder was seen at a coffee shop in the area?
I somehow envision the Cavuto boys (if he has any) as NOT being the type quite this ‘spirited.’
I’m with Neil on the disciplining...but a happy ending.
They'll garnish the kid's allowance.
Yep, I didn’t make it up, just passed it along.
Thank the Lord this little kiddo is alright!!!!!
Seems to me someone would have known early on that the balloon basket was missing.
It amazes me what stories MSM will chase, and what they CHOOSE to ignore.
