Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

“Did you just revoke his man card?............”
Something bad is about to happen or something hard needs to be done.
You tell a dude to “Cowboy Up” or “Man Up” “Git ‘er done” or “Suck it up and drive on” (Army).
The dude sits down and says “No”. You tell him “Your Man Card has been revoked.” Nice way of saying “You’re a pussy.”
‘He said he saw two boys on the roof with a camera, commenting about their brother.
“One of the boys yelled to me that his brother was way up in the air,” Licko said.
Licko said the boy’s mother seemed distraught and that the boy’s father was running around the house.’
Looks like it will be ‘Reality TV’ in the end. They have film evidence, no doubt.
But did the dad think the kid was inside the helium when he could clearly see no basket attached in the video?
how does one become a ‘balloon expert’?
Maybe if you scaled it up by a factor of four.
>>how does one become a balloon expert?<<
I’m sure it’s a major at Berkely.
blow up 300 balloons and you are an expert
Are you talking about the guy that called before the “expert” that said the balloon only held 120 cubic feet of helium? He was wrong.
I don’t recall the “expert” saying anything about the capacity.
When it landed empty I hoped for a hoax, now it sounds like he fell at some point and if so hard to imagine how he survived. It’s a very upsetting feeling.

Not to mention, light headed...
A deputy saw something fall from the balloon according to Hannity.
That should give them a rough guess where to start a search.
My calculations say pretty much the same thing. Picking up a 60 pound boy is not out of the question.
I heard about the missing part of it about an hour ago...
The only station covering it now is CNN..

You have to be full of hot air
I haven't read all the preceding thread. But would it lift off from a density altitude of 5000+ feet? (and do more than drift sideways)
CNN just showed a photo of something falling from the balloon.
CNN about to show a picture they thibk shows the box. omg it actually shows something far below the ballon in the air.
He said it didn’t look large enough to lift the kid
The hot air balloonist guy
Did you see the video? Living on the edge seemed to be acceptable.

Idiot Fox 31 reporters — talking about how windy it would be in the balloon with wind speed at 25 mph. The balloon moves with the wind so the relative difference in speed would be low and any observer in the balloon would not notice high winds. Likewise some other comments they made. However, they are correct about the temperature drop at 15,000 feet — from 60’s on the ground to about 17° at that altitude.
