A reputable poll out of Tennessee this morning shows how mere evidence and facts aren't enough to deter the perseverance of false beliefs. The quarterly Middle Tennessee State University Survey finds that 34% of adults believe that President Obama was born in another country. 47% of Republicans hold that belief. About a third -- 30% -- say Obama is a Muslim. 46% -- and this includes many Democrats and independents -- say he's a socialist. Put aside the socialist finding for a second. The first two claims -- that Obama is a Muslim and/or was born outside the U.S. -- have been definitely, repeatedly and loudly debunked by the press, by watchdog groups, and by Republicans. A reasonable person, looking at the facts and putting him or herself at a distance from whatever emotions entangle one's appraisal of Barack Obama, cannot help but come to that conclusion. Obama was born in the US; he's not Muslim. These facts are as fact-y as facts can get. And yet -- among adults in a major American state, false beliefs prevail and flourish. What are we to make of this?

I guess Media Matters and Factcheck and the Obama troll slurps here on FR aren’t clearing things up for us neanderthals after all.
ah hahahahaha.... geez, can these bastards write a good joke, or what?
Tennesseans known the difference between horse sense and horse sh*t.
“FREE THE LONG FORM!”
Earth to the Atlantic...show us the d*mned REAL certificate.
While you’re at it, howz about also getting a hold of all the school, etc records that the Obamaloon doesn’t want us to see.
THEN, we’ll talk about whether or not Tennessee folks are having mental troubles.
Islam is inherited from one’s father. Obama’s father was a Muslim. The End.
Maybe you should make of it that Obama IS a Socialist? Or maybe an "opinion" about whether somebody is a Socialist cannot by definition be a "False belief" - unless of course your aim is to police "wrong thinking."
Seems that a large percentage of Kenyans believe that too:

What’s your point, Sherlock?!
He WAS born in another country and is not even a legal citizen of The United States; at least he has shown no documents to PROVE it. He also, as demonstrated by his life and his speech, is certainly more amenable to Islam than he is to TRUE Christianity.
And what was some of that other drivel in the survey? Oh, never mind!
Note they also cover up and downplay Cass Sunstein book since it’s starting to surface and people are actually reading what he has said...
There is (in my opinion) more evidence in favor of Obama being a muslim:
He has said the Muslim call to prayer is "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth.".
His church in Chicago welcomed muslims and preached Black Liberation Theology, which has ties to Muslim beliefs.
During the campaign, he answered a question about his faith by starting out "My muslim faith..." and the interviewer corrected him, saying "you mean your Christian faith...?" and Obama corrected himself.
He has stated in writing that if things get politically difficult, he would side with the Muslim world.
He has stated that America is not a Christian nation; he has called America a Muslim nation.
He (arguably) bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia.
His religion was stated on his elementary school records as "Muslim". How am I doing so far? He has solicited resumes from the Islamic Brotherhood for positions in the Whitehouse.
Some of his top advisors are Muslim.
During the campaign, he was endorsed by Ali Larijani, the hard-line speaker of the Iranian parliament, Louis Farrakhan, Muammar Gaddafi, and Hamas.
In August 2006, Obama took a taxpayer-funded trip to Africa. While he was in northern Kenya, he was photographed in full Muslim regalia. In August, Obama took a taxpayer-funded trip to Africa. While he was in northern Kenya, he was photographed in full Muslim regalia. A photo appears in the February 4th, 2008 edition of "The Examiner," under the caption, "Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is dressed in Muslim attire while on a trip to Kenya."
There is more but I must close for now.
Tennessee gave Bush a 5% margin over their own senator Chucklehead in 2000. If Tenn had gone for Gore, the outcome in Florida wouldn’t have mattered.
Tenn was such a lost cause, Gore didn’t even campaign there, and Tenn made the margin of victory for Bush.
Now you’ve done it, Tennessee. Go over there and stand with Sarah, Glenn, Rush, Michelle and Ann.
1. Where is their proof that he was born in the US?
2. Where is their proof that in his heart he is not a Muslim?
3. Where is their proof that his guiding ideology is not socialism?
The Atlantic has no more proof about where he was born and what's in his heart than they know where I was born or what's in my heart. The assertion that these are false beliefs makes the people at The Atlantic obvious liars.
People in Tennessee know the difference between the front and rear of a horse. Marc Ambinder of the Atlantic evidently does not.
Yeah, I guess there really is a problem in Tennessee: 66% of the resident don’t yet believe the ZerO was born in a foreign country.
A good place for this article and the whole magazine , is the outhouse
Oh yeah, the Atlantic is reliable.......as reliable as CNN.
