Rush Limbaugh will not be an NFL owner and it’s not because, to borrow the title of Al Franken’s book, “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.”
OK. It’s a little bit of that.
If Limbaugh and all of his “ditto heads” out there want to blame the liberal, bed-wetting, panty-waste, fruitcake media with the left-wing agenda — and THAT’S why this country’s going to hell in a hand-basket, mister! — for him being rejected by the NFL, well, they’re missing the point.
The NFL has a product. The NFL has the most sought-after product in professional sports. The NFL is all about protecting its product. It’s about cultivating an image and protecting the league shield. Why? Because that leads to fans, which leads to ticket sales, which leads to sponsorships and wealth and, most of all, power.
It doesn’t really matter that all NFL owners and many players are rich and therefore, logic dictates, probably lean to the right politically themselves. This isn’t about politics. It never was about politics. When I slammed Limbaugh’s candidacy as a potential part-owner of the St. Louis Rams last Tuesday — and then a second time — it infuriated Limbaugh’s blind loyalists. Why? Because most of his fans apparently can’t see beyond their nearby radio speaker, out of which they can hear his turbo-lipped ramblings.
The NFL doesn’t want an owner who was investigated for illegally obtaining, and then becoming addicted to, prescription painkillers. And yes, there is a big difference between one of 32 owners — who is seeking approval from other owners — being a former drug abuser, and one of 2,000 players becoming a drug-abuser after he enters the league.
The NFL also doesn’t want someone who has proven to be divisive, both racially and otherwise. It doesn’t want someone who:
♦ Sang, “Barack, the Magic Negro,” on his show.
♦ Makes statements like, “The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback to do well,” which he claimed was why the media was going “soft” on Donovan McNabb (which must have seemed really funny to McNabb).
♦ Once said, “The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips.”
♦ Similarly referenced the NBA, saying, “Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association. … They’re going to watch the Crips and the Bloods.”
♦ Said of the “Survivor” TV series that the, “African-American tribe” had the worst swimmers, and Hispanics “will do things other people won’t do.”
♦ Said, “[In] Obama’s America, the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering.”
♦ Said, “Minorities never do anything for which they have to apologize.”
Should I go on, or is that enough?
Dave Checketts understood. He heads the group seeking to purchase the Rams, and he knew the other owners never would approve of the sale. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell didn’t want him in the league. The NFL Players Association didn’t want him in the league — and there’s a new Collective Bargaining Agreement to be negotiated.
Limbaugh is out. He knows why. He just can’t admit the truth.
His reaction: “This is not about the NFL, it’s not about the St. Louis Rams, it’s not about me. This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative. … Therefore, this is about the future of the United States of America and what kind of country we’re going to have.”
So the U.S. is going to hell because the NFL doesn’t want Rush Limbaugh as an owner?
Perfect. My kind of country. My kind of league.
The situation with Limbaugh tells me more about the NFL than anything else.
I'll be spending zero time in front of the TV for the NFL. Many other things to do with my time and money.
With 75% black players and only being 12% of society - it is time to impose quota’s like they do on all other industries.
I hope Rush takes these yahoos to court for defamation of character.
The basic reality is that there are four critical positions in NFL teams, i.e. owner, general manager, head coach, and personnel director. Any sort of a major problem at any of those positions, and nothing else you do can save you. The Washington Deadskins with the Snyder/Cerrato dynamic duo are an extreme example.
Some stuff should be left hanging in the museum. Even when they were losing the Broncos looked good.
It’s just a thing with me. I used to be a Streisand fan, and loved to hear her sing. Can stomach listening to her now. Same with movies, and so-called “stars”.
The only way I would watch a team is if they spoke up against this blatant hypocrisy. Those on the left are spouting their lies, through ignorance or by design. Those who value truth should speak out too, imo.
It’s not as much about punishing them as it is that I can’t enjoy it for thinking about everything it represents if everyone remains silent and allows the Left to own the image presented by the league.
This panty waist journalist can’t even spell panty waist correctly. Dumbass.
Go ahead, it is all true. The racial grievance industry wants PC by Whites at all times and Rush does not play.
How many NFL employees are felons?? Read once that about 1/4 or all players have been arrested for felonies while in the NFL, National Felons’ League. After the bigoted display of racism the players have shown this week, Negro Felons’ League.
Not sure if Rush said this stuff or not but it doesn’t bother me...it’s the truth.
I haven’t watched NFL, NBA or Miami Hurricanes for 20 years almost now for the same reasons some on this thread are just discovering.
Am I post cultural or what?
STEAMING. "Investigated for" is not guilty of, first of all. And no NFL owner has ever had an addiction to anything??? I doubt that. I thought people fighting an addiction successfully were to be praised? The NFL dares to say that it is morally ABOVE sin???
If this is "protecting their product," I want nothing to do with the NFL for the rest of my life.
Yep, they have a product alright which they just threw down the toilet.
Rush is taking all these liars to court... and he will win.
LLS
I’m torn whether I’ll watch or not. I definately won’t be buying anything NFL.
Same here.
Just Google how many NFL players have been arrested in the last 5 years. That will keep you busy reading for a few days. Just a bunch of thugs and gangsters. The NFL does not deserve Rush.
I am very glad the NFL has NO current or former drug abusers on its teams. I glad none of the NFL players get involved in shoot outs, carry guns illegally, get drunk and kill people in car accidents.
Yes, it is a very clean product they are selling. That’s why I rarely watch NFL and NBA games on purpose.
