With Sirius-XM Merger Complete, 'Mirge' Radio Debuts

New York, NY (AHN) - After its recent merger was finally completed, the Sirius-XM satellite radio company is moving ahead with new products, including an all-in-one radio that allows consumers to receive all its channels on one product.

The company's product, called The Mirge, allows subscibers of its all in one programming package to listen to Sirius XM's entire catalog of programming, including coverage of every major sports league and many college sports games.

The biggest difference between The Mirge, and all of Sirius-XM's other radios is that Sirius subscribers can finally have access to MLB game coverage, previously only available on XM.

The Mirge also allows listeners to receive every music and information channel Sirius and XM offer with a nifty screen that can show what is happening on up to four different channels.

The Mirge is on sale on the shopxmradio.com website for $189.

Producing such a dual-service receiver was a requirement of the merger approval, so they had to do it.

Rather than developing new receivers, I (and thousands of other former XM fans) really really wish they’d worry about restoring the quality and diversity of programming that we had with the old XM.

XM/SIRI is the best thing since slice bread! I could not crank up my car without it! If Rush would come over to 166 it would be complete. If you listen to 1 hour of XM/SIRI you will be hooked!

I will not subscribe to satellite radio because of that Howard Stren deal, they deserve to go bankrupt.

Can’t live without it anymore. Old-fashioned radio is just painful to listen to after the freedom of satellite.

I love my XM, and would be heartbroken if it cratered.

You are missing out on good radio content by ignoring satellite radio. I have been a Sirius subscriber for over 4 years and I hate having to switch cars to one that doesn’t have it. I subscribed before Howard Stern got his satellite deal and I still don’t listen to him.

As far as the Howard Stern deal goes, it is like TV, if you don’t like what is on one channel, change the channel. Your logic is like saying you won’t use cable TV because they offer the Playboy channel or some other stuff you don’t like.

I bought a car equipped with XM that had a free 3 month subscription. It was good...not great, but good. When the free subscription ran out I didn't renew it right away but when I heard about their troubles and the deals they were offering I called and got $77/yr.As long as it's $77/yr I'll pay but not if it goes any higher.

And as for that talentless, foul mouth punk,Stern,I don't get his channel and never will...regardless of how long I might keep the service.

I liked Sirius when I had it but canceled because they never merged all the channels before. If it’s one company why should I pay more to get all the channels it offers? I’m sorry, but this overregulation killed the value of merging these companies.

I am a lifetime Sirius subscriber. This means I have up to 5 radio changes without having to ever pay for Sirius again. I’ll run each receiver until it dies and I’m still on my first one. What I would like to see is the bandwidth combined and sound quality improved to that of CD or HD.

The biggest boon for satellite radio would be the Obama administration succeed in muzzling AM talk radio. That would bring 20 million listeners to satellite radio.

Playboy is PPV, if I didn’t have to pay Howard Stern, then I might consider it.

I like it as well, though I listen to my old fashion radio for conservative talk, and use Serius mostly for music. The Sinatra station, classic country, and the old time radio shows are my favorite stations.

The one thing I don't like is where does the pay for service end? You pay for your Cell phone, your TV Channels, Radio, and on and on and on. There has got to be a breaking point in all of our budgets at some point.

Probably closer to 30 to 40 million over a number of years, even the people who rarely listen would be affected. If they kill AM radio its going to even hurt the FM channels IMO.

All I really want is to be able to get Cinemagic on my Sirius. I don’t want to go out and buy a new receiver.

I had XM for years and loved it, but canceled it soon after the merger because it just plain starting sucking.

Nothing is free. Cable TV, even the “basic” or “free” TV costs anywhere from $35 to $50 a month. You will be paying for things you don’t like including CNN, Brian Williams or Katie Couric’s bloated salaries if you pay to watch TV. Satellite radio is the same. I agree that Sirius nearly bankrupted themselves by paying Howard Stern the big contract that he received when he moved over to satellite and I wouldn’t pay more for it, but the fees have only gone up about $2 a month and that was at least a year or two after Stern moved.

Arguments about not wanting satellite radio because one person has a big contract don’t hold water. It would be like avoiding TV completely because you didn’t like David Letterman. Stay away from it if you like, but I will continue to enjoy my satellite radio with many channels that don’t have Howard Stern.

“I will not subscribe to satellite radio because of that Howard Stren deal, they deserve to go bankrupt.”

Agreed. I have a friend who has this and he pipes it all through his house, which is fine, but really, just put on an Easy Listening mixed CD and get ON with your life. Why spend the cash for it?

I do listen to the music channels on our HDTV thing from time to time, especially for a Christmas mix. I guess we’re paying for that...but I make Husband pay for that because I could live without it. As well as regular TV, too. ;)
