If you ever get a chance to rent this particular version of the Man of La Mancha from 1972 staring Peter OToole and Sophia Loren I strongly encourage you to do so. It is both breath taking and heart breaking. I think you will find this unlike any version of this you have ever seen.
The filthy rag Don Quixote picks up at the beginning is a dirty dish rag that she (Aldonza) threw at him earlier. Don Quixote considers it beautiful like gossamer (a gauze or silk fabric of the very finest texture). Don Quixote refers to Aldonza (a harsh and unflattering name) by the name "Dulcinea", a very beautiful and elegant name. Although she is a prostitute he sees her as pure and beautiful. She is indeed a new creation although she cannot believe it yet.
Its an incredible metaphor of how our Heavenly Father views us through the shed blood of his Son Jesus Christ on the cross if we only but ask for forgiveness. If you are not a believer, still watch the clip, you will find it very moving nonetheless.
Video Here - Well Worth Watching
Bump, thought you might enjoy this (for your namesake) ...
I can only take about 3 minutes of Peter O’Toole before my gag reflex starts kicking in.
Definitely a favorite of mine!
When I saw the title, the first thing I thought was, great - another Obama thread.
We need more men like his character is this country ...
Sophia is worth watching...anytime.
Thanks thanks.
It is a wonderful version.
Thanks for the link and the memory.
Made me cry. Thank you so much.
Quix for Quixote, true true.
