Nobel jury speaks out in defense of Obama prize

OSLO — One judge noted with surprise that President Barack Obama "didn't look particularly happy" at being named the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Another marveled at how critics could be so patronizing.

In a rare public defense of a process normally shrouded in secrecy, four of the Nobel jury's five judges spoke out Tuesday about a selection they said was both merited and unanimous.

To those who say a Nobel is too much too soon in Obama's young presidency, "We simply disagree ... He got the prize for what he has done," committee chairman Thorbjorn Jagland told The Associated Press by telephone from Strasbourg, France, where he was attending meetings of the Council of Europe.

Jagland singled out Obama's efforts to heal the divide between the West and the Muslim world and scale down a Bush-era proposal for an anti-missile shield in Europe.

"All these things have contributed to — I wouldn't say a safer world — but a world with less tension," he said.

For nine-year Nobel committee veteran Inger-Marie Ytterhorn, Obama's demeanor spoke volumes when he first acknowledged the award during a news conference Friday on the lawn of the White House Rose Garden.

How dare the Nobel jury speak out on BHO deserving the Nobel False Peace Prize.

He doesn't deserve it, period. It's akin to awarding a high school diploma to a student with straight F grades.

I would laugh were it not so damn pathetic. The committee has just proven us right: anti-Bush, anti-strong America award.

And the money we were paid.

Unless the student happened to be a chimpanzee, in which case it would be a brilliant achievement.

I think that’s unfair.

It’s more akin to awarding a high school diploma to a student who the majority of people THINK is promising, but who hasn’t actually sat any of his exams yet! At least he had the grace to look perplexed at receiving it.

Personally, if this is what the Nobel prizes have come to, I intend to issue a statement tomorrow outlining how I shall be examining Human DNA very carefully over the next few years, and shall thereby prove conclusively that all of Humanity is one big happy family and that homosexuality is a perfectly natural phenomenae. That should be good enough for a Nobel Prize in Genetics.

I think it is great that they have devalued their precious award to this diminished status. I think it is important that Republicans make frequent use of the Nobel in a mocking manner to establish it as such in the public mindset.

What is this, the Norwegians are hurt because Bummer “didn’t look too happy.” That’s his normal expression, fellas. I don’t think anything would put a grin on his face short of Iranian nukes landing in the continental USA.

"Alfred Nobel wrote that the prize should go to the person who has contributed most to the development of peace in the previous year," Jagland said.

This could be construed to state that the prize was awarded for "what he accomplished" in calendar year 2008, rather the lengthy period between his inauguration and February 1, 2009.

Oh puh-leeze. The judges were just meddling in US affairs and made a really stupid decision. They won’t look so dumb if they don’t try to justify it. Just go away.

Obambi got the prize for dissing America... period !!!

Ungrateful Euro trash are garden-variety, elitist nitwits who like Obambi are unable to see and accept the good things (sacrifices) that Americans have done for the world.

Obambi and the Euro trash are offensive on so many levels.

In the election last November, Obama won the world’s most impressive and valuable prize. The Nobel, in contrast, is as effusive and misplaced a compliment as the “my son” that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi bestowed on him last month. The only blessing of Obama’s acceptance is that he may have killed off the prize for good.

Appears that T. Jagland is the newly elected SecGen of the CoE, Council of Europia, another crappy 60 year old Socialist Org birthed post WWII by the weak French/British scaliwags who survived WW2 and only prospered due to the death of many of their more courageous brothers/sisters during the war. Jagland is one of the worst of these yellow-bellied slime buckets...another reason for national strength so useless wars will not be fought.

This looks like Obama asked Oslo “Could you write me a note explaining why i deserved the Nobel Peace Prize? Everyone is acting like it’s a joke.”
