Media Research Center President Brent Bozell today demanded that CNN and MSNBC prove that radio talk show king Rush Limbaugh uttered a racist quote they have attributed to him as fact after Limbaugh publicly denied having ever said, Slavery built the South. Im not saying we should bring it back. Im just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark on his nationally syndicated airwaves.
"CNN and MSNBC must immediately and publicly source when Limbaugh uttered this phrase. He has unequivocally denied it. Now it is up to the same news media that reported it as fact to prove that it was, indeed, stated," NewsBusters Publisher Bozell insisted in a statement, arguing that if the charges are undocumentable, the offending networks are "100% guilty of character assassination."
The accusations against Limbaugh came in the wake of reports the radio talk show host is part of a group bidding for ownership of the St. Louis Rams NFL franchise. The full Bozell statement is appended below the page break:

The MRC has overnighted letters to senior executives at both cable networks demanding that they take this sourcing seriously and report back to the public. We await their word.
Either Rush Limbaugh is lying or these networks willfully or not are participants in the worst form of character assassination imaginable. They can prove their innocence by documenting this accusation. If they cant, then they are 100% guilty of character assassination.
Tomorrow we will go public with their response
I have listened to Rush since his first days on our local station in 1988 or early 1989. I simply do not believe he ever said this. Period. I hope he goes to the max with them over this. It was very frustrating to hear all those black players and commentators talking about it and just taking it at face value that he said those things. To my mind it’s racism at its worse, and very representative of the racism that is prevalent today. I wonder if they know how ignorant their rants, based on nothing more than something they were told was said at some point, makes them look. Or, do they even care?
Limbaugh is at a point financially that blowing several million on lawyers fees just to make the state controlled media sweat would probably be worth it to him.
MS-NBC fired Michael Savage over less:
Chris Matthews Fantasizes About Killing Rush Limbaugh (NumberOneLevinFan/YouTube ^ | 10-13-09 | Chris Matthews)
CHRIS MATTHEWS: You guys see Live and Let Die, the great Bond film with Yaphet Kotto as the bad guy, Mr. Big? In the end they jam a big CO2 pellet in his face and he blew up. I have to tell you, Rush Limbaugh is looking more and more like Mr. Big, and at some point somebodys going to jam a CO2 pellet into his head and hes going to explode like a giant blimp. That day may come. Not yet. But well be there to watch. I think hes Mr. Big, I think Yaphet Kotto. Are you watching, Rush?
If Rush takes legal action, the damages may include a statement of apology read on-air in prime slots. At that point it will go viral on the web. Should be fun to watch.
Is it possible to be anti-communist and not be a racist?
It is hate speech to spread such libelous rumors about political opponents. The speech is designed to make Mr. Limbaugh appear like a bigot. Designed to turn the public against him. Designed to make them hate him. All because the Stalinist who made up the quote hates him.
Crying wolf is in itself a hate crime when they bring racism into it.
Levin would do it for nothing!
It doesn’t matter how much Rush lawyers up, it only takes one liberal judge to come to the MSM’s defense.
Been listening to Rush since I was a little girl, so I’m sure he didn’t say it.
What springs out at me in this piece is seeing the bogus quote attribution referred to as the worst form of character assassination.
Hah! I remember when that would have been...oh, maybe accusing someone of failing to report homosexual pedophilia, or drugging-and-raping a little girl. Now it’s just bad form even if the accusation is true.
Wasn’t this a nationwide slander/libel? Rush could venue shop. Two can play that game.
Leftists lie with impunity and never source their assertions.
They sure are revving up the lies.
They’re really scared.
MSNBC’S MATTHEWS ADVOCATING VIOLENCE?
‘Someone’s Going To Jam a CO2 Pellet Into Rush’s Head’...
I disagree. I think it was some moonbat who intentionally made it up and the moonbats at MSNBC repeated them to give them some credibility and now it has been repeated so often that it is just assumed it is true.
Number of reasons Rush Limbaugh never would say this. While he has been forced to discuss Obama and race in some respects, Rush really stays away from racial issues. You aren’t going to hear him getting deep into affirmative action policies or anything like it.
While slavery economically “built” the antebellum south, Limbaugh would never say the streets were safer after dark, that is a pure snickering at blacks and he wouldn’t do it.
I would guess cities were safer back then both before and after slavery, but I’m not certain. You had some pretty deep poverty and bad sections to cities even then.
I sincerely hope Rush sue alot of people for alot of money and wins. OMG, that would be so fricking funny.
Racial bigotry is not one of them.
Somewhere in Texas, a Kinkos is missing its fool. :)
Not to mention that it can be shown lies like this prevented his bid to be owner of the Rams.
