The year the SS# was issued is inconsistent with with his time at Columbia: it was issued in 1976 or 1977, while he was at Columbia from 1981 to 1983.

It was not issued to Obama in 1976 or 1977. The number was issued to one of the two ladies. They did not die until shortly before he was at Columbia. You do NOT apply to steal someone's identity. If the number is now showing up in his name, he needed someone with access to make the change for him - just like they did for his selective service records.

Bingo. If CT issued SS# to an applicant without requiring a birth certificate we have the answer to why O would have applied to CT for his SS#.

Perhaps he could have even requested his application for a SS# from CT and then mailed his papers back to CT to receive the CT SS#.

It was very easy back then to get a phoney SS card. I used to know someone who came here illegally, and for a price, got a SS card and number. I believe the sellers of these things, just searched old newspaper obits(many newspapers keep old copies on microfilm in libraries they provide access to, or public libraries).

I believe anyone who has access to those type people..could get a SS# for a price.

Yes, he may have used a document forger to get that CT SS#. But, if CT didn’t require a birth certificate to issue a SS# way back then, “Barry” with the great smile who came from HI to visit his hippie, dope-smoking/selling friend in IL and who wanted to be the president of the U.S. even then as a kid got his SS# without a birth certificate because he couldn’t get a SS# in HI.

But WHY would this happen at 15? Even if he wanted his first Baskin Robbins job and needed one, why wouldn't his Grandpa sign him up to become a citizen? Why not go through the front door? What was there to hide? I do not believe he would need to STEAL one. His grandparents had custody, they were American, and they could surely have done something legal to get him one.

He is a few years younger than I am. When I was 15 and a half I got a drivers permit. At that time they told me in order to test and receive my drivers license at 16, I had to send for my SS#. I had to send a copy of my BC and an application to receive my SS#. Way back then and until about 10 or 12 years ago...my drivers license number was my SS#.
