DOLTON, Ill. (CBS2) A 15-year-old special education student was walking down a hallway at school when he says a police officer grabbed him and threw him to the ground. The teenager says he was beaten and nearly suffocated and much of it was caught on tape.
The teen told his story to CBS 2 Chicago reporter Dave Savini.
Security cameras captured the beating of Marshawn Pitts, who says the officer started shouting and swearing at him because his shirt wasn't tucked in.
"I was tucking my shirt in," Pitts said.
But it's what happened next that had Marshawn Pitts worried for his life. Pitts says the officer came at him suddenly.
"It was just like boom," Pitts said.
He says he was blindsided by the officer, thrown into lockers and struck repeatedly.
In the video, you can see that he gets slammed to the ground and his face smashed into the floor. His nose was broken. Pitts says he was bleeding.
"All this on the outside of my mouth was busted," he said.
He calls this treatment violent and unnecessary, especially considering he was attending the Academy for Learning High School in Dolton for students like him with Special Education needs.
When he was younger, he suffered a brain injury and now has a learning disability. The school for special needs was supposed to help him and understand his situation.
"Yeah, but instead I got beaten on by police," Pitts said.
The officer in question was a Dolton police officer, and the hold he used on Pitts can be a dangerous one.

"It's called a face-down take-down, and kids and adults often die because they can't breathe," Naiditch said.

...again, all I was attempting to say is that a 1 minute video doesn’t explain all. The news is notorious about taking something that they “think” they understand - and blowing it out of proportion.
Now - since others have posted unrelated links on this officer - I would agree - that yes - this guy doesn’t need to be in uniform.
Per the autopsy report - he would help to clarify (again) exactly what was the officers hit % in chest and head - like we are all trained to do - or was it sporadic...
Before I condemn anyone - I like a broader perspective - and I don’t trust the media to give it to me...since they pick and choose what to cover and how much of that to cover - look at our current situation with Great Comrade Leader..
per kids being dangerous - I’m sure you remember the two young boys who tricked the little boy away from a mall in the UK - and then killed him...

...all I was saying is that there are circumstances that occur before and after...the news always shows exactly what it wants the viewer to see. My view here is that I trust trust to the news to show me or even detail the incident that gives the viewer 100% of the information.
I was in the Green Zone and watched a reporter tell his audience that the reason why it’s called the Green Zone is because Saddam had gardens and everything is green - plus this is where they keep the money....wrong! - he got got it wrong - Green Zone means Safe Zone for US personnel...
So back to the point I was making about the video - just don’t go off of what you see until other outside information flows in to give a better perspective of the situation - that’s all I’m saying here...
Agreed, but the immediate before is clearly visible. ‘Talking’ back to an LEO (if that even happened) should not result in corporal punishment.
agreed - but I always wait for further info - before condemning anyone...and since others posted links to other situations involving this officer - light has been shed than just one video - the officer should have been removed from public service a while back...
Just another member of the 99% giving the rest of the police a bad name.
Wha...?! How did this cop get away with shooting dead his ex-wife’s husband?
I was threatened two years ago by a man on my street. (He’d started an argument with me and was shocked when this little woman wouldn’t back down.) Long story short: I called 911 on my cell and gave the license plate number of his vehicle and another one before they took off.
But, the police claimed 911 didn’t pass the license numbers on. I described the vehicle and told them where he said he lived, but all they would say is, “OK, we’ll drive by.” It was strange. They kept giving me the runaround.
Well, just this past summer, one of my sons told me there was a police cruiser parked in front of that same house, as if a cop lived there. Now I think that guy is a cop, and his buddies were covering for him. In fact, the more I think about the situation, the more I’m convinced that guy was a cop - or someone associated with the police in some way.
There are good cops, and there are bad ones. The cop who beat that student is abusing his badge.
According to other links on this thread, this cop also killed his ex-wife’s husband by shooting him to death. And after beating that student on videotape, now the same cop is jailed on rape charges in another case.
There are two sides to every story, but there’s too much smoke around this cop for there not to be a fire.
And the guys who cover for their bad cop buddies are also bad cops.
(sarcasm on)
But, but, we need to look at ALL aspects of the rape.
Was it rape or ‘rape’ rape? Wasn’t the lady just asking for it? Probably she just made up the whole story in the first place.
How could you even *THINK* ill of a cop.
(sarcasm off)
Too many people automatically assume the very best about cops regardless of situation. If this wasn’t rape, but simple battery, you’d see *EXACTLY* this sort of cr@p spewed.
Some must have made the mistake of telling him to pick on someone his own IQ level.
thanks, bfl
You weren't there for the moon landing either. Does that mean that you are not sure it happened?
