DOLTON, Ill. (CBS2) A 15-year-old special education student was walking down a hallway at school when he says a police officer grabbed him and threw him to the ground. The teenager says he was beaten and nearly suffocated and much of it was caught on tape.
The teen told his story to CBS 2 Chicago reporter Dave Savini.
Security cameras captured the beating of Marshawn Pitts, who says the officer started shouting and swearing at him because his shirt wasn't tucked in.
"I was tucking my shirt in," Pitts said.
But it's what happened next that had Marshawn Pitts worried for his life. Pitts says the officer came at him suddenly.
"It was just like boom," Pitts said.
He says he was blindsided by the officer, thrown into lockers and struck repeatedly.
In the video, you can see that he gets slammed to the ground and his face smashed into the floor. His nose was broken. Pitts says he was bleeding.
"All this on the outside of my mouth was busted," he said.
He calls this treatment violent and unnecessary, especially considering he was attending the Academy for Learning High School in Dolton for students like him with Special Education needs.
When he was younger, he suffered a brain injury and now has a learning disability. The school for special needs was supposed to help him and understand his situation.
"Yeah, but instead I got beaten on by police," Pitts said.
The officer in question was a Dolton police officer, and the hold he used on Pitts can be a dangerous one.

"It's called a face-down take-down, and kids and adults often die because they can't breathe," Naiditch said.

The Chicago Tribune-backed service adds: "A lawsuit filed by his ex-wife, Nicole McKinney, last summer alleges he gunned down her new husband Cornel McKinney in front of their children outside their home on the 6100 block of South Langley Avenue on Feb. 17, 2008."
An autopsy revealed Lloyd shot the man 24 times, the agency found. He was not jailed at the time as Chicago police accepted his explanation that the killing was in self-defense.
How did this jackass keep his job after the shooting.
24 shots? Self defense?
Is Chicago the worst place in the USA? I certainly hope so.
No news here folks, Move on... The cop is only doing what he was trained to do.
I didn’t know it was a crime to not tuck in your shirt.
I believe those children that attend this school are there because of behavior problems. Special needs covers a wide area as well. Like not attending school and falling behind. It looked to me that the 15 yr old was walking around and they were trying to get him back into class. There were other adults there as well (teachers?). I’m sure this 15 yr old probably said alot before this escalated to the point were the officer intervened.
Per the prior shooting, 24 shoots with a 9mm under a high stress situation fighting for one’s life can be reasonable...those rounds usually go right through and the attacker can continue to fight...being shot in the arm and legs won’t be fatal...so that autopsy is a general statement and we don’t know what caliber and the situation was at the time of the shooting.
Getting a beating for dress code??? Again - we don’t know because we weren’t there - there’s a host of circumstances that we the public don’t know and what did this 15 yr old do prior to this???
What a bunch of crap....
You don’t know because You weren’t there, but in spite of all the evidence of history Joe Stalin might have been a kindly loving man who was simply made to look bad by the brutal security people he naively surrounded himself with, and his evil capitalist enemies.
Or maybe the truth is often what the preponderance of the evidence indicates.
Just suggesting you might consider this view of the world, when faced with video that directly counters law enforcement assertions. Like the beatings of brain damaged children or bar tenders by police.
I understand the ‘devil’s advocate’ attempt. Trying to read between the lines and see if the officer had reason. The video shows enough before the assault to pretty much chuck that right out the window. Unless you believe the LEO’s are there to treat school age kids like inmates that is, or that talking back to an LEO deserves a beating.
Well obviously, he must have been a druggie trying to peddle marijuana to all of those younger kids around there. It's "for the children", don't you understand? The occifer was just trying to "serve & protect"!
I mean, look @ him: walking around w/ his shirt not being tucked in -- he had it coming to him! < / sarc>
Are your forgetting your /sarcasm tag? 24 hits, in your hypothetical high stress situation, either he was the worlds luckiest shot and fired three - nine round mags with over 90% hit rate and no center mass hits or he adapted a thompson with a drum mag to 9mm and let loose with one blast of fifty and hit the victim with half.
Chicago.
Not defending the cop here, but there are some gaping holes in the story. For starters, what was a city cop doing in a high school? What did the kid say that set the cop off? Who are the other people that dog piled on the kid? It looks to me like the kid might have made some kind of threat.
.
Why is this Nazi SS still in the police department????
Not defending sanity here, , but there are some gaping holes in your theory. Per the article, this incident (caught on video) was not reported to the school authorities.
If the cop was doing his job and is on the level, how does that come about exactly?
The kid stole the cop’s report later? The dog ate it? He spilled coffee and donuts on it? Just why did the cop not report this as required?
Get back to me on that one.
Per the news story, no one at the police station or high school are talking. I’ll wait to hear their story and make a conclusion then, thank you.
You are going to get slammed here. You are not allowed to be rational when it comes to the police.
Who WERE those other people that helped the cop?
Why, if it was all about the shirt, did those people help?
I don’t give a $h!t what the kid may or may not have said. No cop in a school does that. This wasn’t a criminal resisting arrest. This was a kid violating a dress code.
Don’t be a bootlicker....
Good because he's in jail for rape right now.
