Thousands of Homeowners Cite Drywall for Ills
By LESLIE WAYNE
When Bill Morgan, a retired policeman, moved into his newly built dream home in Williamsburg, Va., three years ago, his hopes were quickly dashed.
His wife and daughter suffered constant nosebleeds and headaches. A persistent foul odor filled the house. Every piece of metal indoors corroded or turned black.
In short order, Mr. Morgan moved out. The headaches and nosebleeds stopped, but the ensuing financial problems pushed him into personal bankruptcy.
My house is not worth the land its built on, said Mr. Morgan, who could not maintain the mortgage payments on his $383,000 home in a Williamsburg subdivision called Wellington Estates and the costs of a rental property where his family decamped.
Mr. Morgan, like many other American homebuyers who tell similar tales of woe, is blaming the drywall in his new home specifically, drywall from China, imported during the housing boom to meet heavy demand that he says is contaminated with various sulfur compounds.

stay with USG.
You would think that the drywall installers would have noticed this and raised the alarm. Oh, wait, drywall is all installed by illegal aliens now who aren’t about to say anything about it. This guy can take the $2k he saved by hiring illegals and use that to pay his doctor’s bills.
China is already at war with us. Our manufacturers are put out of business because of impossibly expensive US regulations, and china gets to dump what ever it wants without being held to any standards. Who’s running the US government?
Friends of mine are going down tommorrow to take down Chinese walllpaper down from the walls
Funny you should ask. People who actually HATE the U.S. and what made it great in the first place, actually.
well said Tiger. on another ‘illegals’ note, a friend of mine’s son was having dad help him with his taxes last year. the kid,(white, American born), made $73,500.00 last year hanging drywall for union contractors in new hi-rise construction. he did not work any overtime due to family obligations, babysitting his kids etc. but he mentioned quite a few of the mexicans he worked alongside (illegals and non illegals) were over $100,000.00 last year WITH some overtime. they lived together in groups to save on rents and sent most of their weekly paycheck $$$ south. who ever said the mexicans are treating the good old USA as a big ATM machine was dead on the money.
radioactive maybe?
Classic products liability situation. No need to have taxpayers cover this. Here in FL there are some pretty bad cases, but again, this is no issue for FEMA or for some sort of application of social insurance.
was that post meant for my number 9 Wally?
Yeah, but he got that drywall and the metal fixtures at a good price. This guy is just a China-phobe, trashing innocent people just because they are different.
This reaction brought to you by FreeTraitors international. “Yes, we sold our neighbors and the nation out, but we lined our pockets in the process.”
wonder if the importer is a vanished fly by night
I bet those illegals paid no taxes too.
I can’t imagine anyone making that kind of money hanging drywall. But I never worked union (as a carpenter not drywall hanging) and the last year I worked full time was ‘95. I guess it’s a matter of where you work too. But top wages for carpenters leveled or fell during the ‘90s due to the influx of illegals. If the houses they build suck I am fresh out of sympathy for the homeowners.
That’s possible. Doesn’t sound good does it. I truly feel sorry for the family. They didn’t have a hand in the materials.

Is there a shred of proof for these assertions, or is this another black mold/breast implant/global warming scam?
