A female appointee with Obama's ear on matters of faith and society thinks Sahria is just swell in terms of "gender justice." All that awkward stuff about a woman's testimony not equaling a man's is apparently a misunderstanding. On a British TV show, Dalia Mogahed, an appointee to the President's Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships made some remarkable statements:

One of my best friends (RIP) was a scholar of the history of Islam. He would agree that the tradition of Sharia is misunderstood — by BOTH the Christian West and some of the Islamic world. Sharia was conceived, not as a set of rigid, brutal laws, but as a set of guidelines for local clerics who knew the situation and the people involved, and would use their best judgment. The true conservative view of Sharia recognizes that, and considers the savagery of the Taliban and some parts of Africa as an aberration.
