President Obama is prepared to accept some Taleban involvement in Afghanistan’s political future and is unlikely to favour a large influx of new US troops being demanded by his ground commander, a senior official said tonight.
Mr Obama appears to have been swayed in recent days by arguments from some advisers, led by Vice-President Joe Biden, that the Taleban do not pose a direct threat to the US and that there should be greater focus on tackling al-Qaeda inside Pakistan.

There was a time after the Soviets in the early 90s the Taliban seemed like a good idea to some Afghanis. Didn’t take too long for that illusion of restored order to turn into a repressive regime of Shari‘a law. Women taken out of teaching roles, thus affecting boys and girls - and ended up with young men only sitting in maddrasses getting heavy doses of anti-Western anti-Christian anti-Semitic indoctrination.
As an aside, IMHO, Obama would honestly welcome Shari‘a law here in the USA if any group would want it.

Biden was right in a way, Zero will be tested and we might not like his response.
We have our men and women along with just a few other foreign forces fighting for their lives there and for our protection here at home.
We are training soldiers, aviators, and support personnel every day and sending them over.
To what end, if Obama can’t say the word VICTORY? To what end, if he will not listen to military advisors and only a wet finger he sticks in the wind?
And Biden and Obama want to let the foxes guard the hen house?
