"You heard the mantra, 'Tax the rich, tax the rich,'" Paterson said. "We've done that. We've probably lost jobs and driven people out of the state."

I would take Paterson over Obama as POTUS in a heartbeat.

Wasn't Patterson the one who commented on Rush Limbaugh leaving,

Dunno about that, but I remember Rush commenting on the absurd requirements of NY law (possibly meaning NYC) that he prove every minute that he was not in NY over last year, because they want to tax him practically for just being there.

NYC taxes income earned in the city, y'see, and they are out to squeeze the rock dry. Makes you wonder why there even is a city still there.

The next step is to confiscate the wealth of anyone trying to leave.

I think that Paterson just might love his country and state more than he loves Obama.

New York State is broke, and their Democrats can't fix it.

The money train has run out, and the good times are over. So what is the solution to dropping tax revenue in the state? JFK, party leader and president way back in the 60's thought the way to increase government revenue was to LOWER taxes. (He was the last Democrat to understand economics.) But what brilliant, earthshaking strategy are the Dims of New York following today?

That’s RIGHT! You go to the people who have been taxed to death to support those who pay nothing, and say, “Give us more!”

And you know what happens…the people move. The businesses move. The revenue moves. And the harder you squeeze, the more tax revenue will fall though your fingers. Why is it that the brilliant people that get sent to Washington, who are much smarter than you or me (just ask ‘em!) can never figure out that populations and jobs are mobile? “Soak the Rich”? And watch them take their money, their savings, the jobs they produce for the economy, and their spending habits the heck out of YOUR state.

I was on DU the other day (just to see what the bad guys were posting) and someone said that they wanted a law that would make it illegal to leave a state for tax reasons. “WE have to stop them from escaping” or some such nonsense.

In the next few years, it seems, we will truly test the notion of whether people will get up and move simply because of high taxes. Oh, and bad government.

It's amazing that the simple, screamingly obvious reality continues to escape the author and so many others.

Getting up and moving because of high taxes and bad government is the whole premise behind the Free State Project, founded in 2001, and nearly 800 people have gotten up and moved so far. My wife and I were the first, leaving behind the 9.3% income tax, 8.25% sales tax, and idiotic gun control in San Jose, California in November 2003.

And we have friends and neighbors who got up and moved out of Massachusetts, New York, and other such states DECADES ago for exactly the same reasons.

Why not? Seems to be working in California.

Well, that's not too surprising considering that the totalitarian impulse is almost exclusively a hallmark of the political left. Leftists built the Berlin Wall.
