Most presidents become a joke at some point. It's a matter of when and how. Both points should concern this president. In Winston Churchill's words, "a joke is a very serious thing." Or it can be, when the joke is about a very serious thing.
"Saturday Night Live" has long been a comedic benchmark. Last weekend, SNL took its first hard hit at President Obama. Fred Armisen, who plays the president, gave an Oval Office address: "When you look at my record it's very clear what I've done so far and that is nothing. Nada. Almost one year and nothing to show for it."
Political satire matters when it is larger than the joke. The growing rap on Obama is that he is a man both ineffective and meek; a man who is loved by all and feared by none.
Bill Maher hit the punch line first in mid-June: "You don't have to be on television every minute of every day. You're the president, not a rerun of 'Law & Order'... TV stars are too worried about being popular and too concerned about being renewed."
Soon Maher came to his key point: "You're skinny and in a hurry and in love with a nice lady, but so is Lindsay Lohan. And just like Lindsay, we see your name in the paper a lot but we're kind of wondering when you're actually going to do something."

a joke?
Yeah—like a bagfull of dead babies!!!!!
If he’s a joke it’s an unbelievably filthy one!
I just returned from a 3rd world country. The first thing I saw was Obama surrounded by socialist Docs in their White Coats...Reminded me of Dukakas in the Tank. What a joke.
The Emperor has no clothes, and the little children are starting to talk about it.
You can’t become what you already are.
There's nothing funny about this idiot!
It’d have been nice if SNL could have found someone who could actually do a decent Obama impression.
A major political party put up a guy with no resume, all his history hidden and full of marxist garbage. The dimrat party is the joke and ozero is the punchline. But we are not laughing.
“When you look at my record it’s very clear what I’ve done so far and that is nothing. Nada. Almost one year and nothing to show for it.”
Considering what an ignorant, misguided and extreme Leftist he is, this is, on balance, probably a good thing.
Becoming?
He’s the joker! Jokes on everyone who voted for this POS and on America!
I think here the term “joke” is defined not as a humorous anecdote but as someone who is the object of ridicule.
The sad fact is ... the Americans that were fooled into thinking they were voting for something good have been reduced to a laughing stock and thus are innefectual.
Those of us who heard zero at the 2004 DNC sat up immediately and mobilized our paranoic thought patterns and prepared for what we intuitively felt was a major blind side comin' our way.
Like Jimmeh Cahtah, most of America knew nothing of zero until he was foisted on us by a presidential electoral cycle.
There is no shame in being taken by a master.
Stand up straight, and get back in rank, Amderica ... we're at war and need you.
the “one” is deliberately taking American society into chaos. His cronies planned and fully intend to destroy us.
Roseanne Roseannadanna was not a real commentator! It was Gilda Radner (an actress) falsifying herself by pretending to comment on current events. #CNNfactcheck
Yeah, he's a freaking Joker alright...
Indeed. That guy is so bad it's actually hard to see the humor. I almost think they do that on purpose, hoping for evidence that "Obama jokes don't work".
Gerald Ford tripped a few times and it became comedy gold. Obama is a walking punchline, but so far no good comedian has really stepped up and rubbed his face in it (yet).
