VA GOV. RACE -- New Survey USA Poll: McDonnell (R) 54% / Deeds (D) 43%

In Virginia, 4 Weeks Until Votes Are Counted, Republicans Remain Poised to Win 3 Top Statewide Contests:

Middle-Aged, Women See Something in Deeds, But Little Else Is New : In en election for Virginia Governor today, 10/05/09, one month until votes are counted, Republican Bob McDonnell defeats Democrat Creigh Deeds, 54% to 43%. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll one week ago, Deeds has gained ground among women, among voters age 50 to 64, and in Southeast VA. In 4 identical SurveyUSA tracking polls conducted for WJLA-TV in Washington DC and WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, McDonnell has polled at 55%, 54%, 55%, 54%. Deeds has polled at 40%, 42%, 41%, 43%.

In the contest for Lieutenant Governor, Incumbent Republican Bill Bolling is today elected to a second term, defeating Democrat Jody Wagner, former Treasurer of VA and VA Secretary of Finance, 57% to 40%. Bolling is consolidating support among men, where he now leads 2:1, and among more educated Virginians, where he now leads 3:2.

In the Attorney General contest, Republican state senator Ken Cuccinelli today defeats Democrat state representative Steve Shannon 53% to 43%. There is offsetting gender movement: men drifting to the Republican, women drifting to the Democrat. And there is offsetting regional movement: Central VA drifting to the Republican, Southeast VA drifting to the Democrat. Otherwise, the complexion of the is contest is largely unchanged.

Filtering: 1,000 Virginia adults were interviewed by SurveyUSA 10/02/09 through 10/04/09. Of them, 851 were registered to vote. Of them, 608 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the November general election. Incumbent Democratic Governor Tim Kaine is term limited; his seat is open. Incumbent Republican Attorney General Bill Mims was appointed to the seat by the Virginia General Assembly in February 2009, when Bob McDonnell resigned to campaign full-time for Governor, and is not seeking election to the office.

Do NOT stop pushing, Virginians.

Take nothing for granted and continue to work hard.

Go, McDonnell.

Saw that yesterday — it’s looking pretty good here in VA (though it’s never too comfortable). I was listening to Norfolk’s WNIS 790 this a.m. and heard the zer0 was going to keep his distance from Deeds’ campaign because he (zer0) doesn’t want to be associated with a losing cause. Well, the news I have for zer0 is... at this point, it won’t matter, and zer0’s record is one GIANT losing cause.

Anyhow.. things are looking up here to break the chains of liberalism — at least for awhile — and return VA to its more traditional conservative path.

Wish the same would apply to New Jersey. It’d be great to have a grand sweep on Election Day, but it’s looking like NJ is once again going wobbly, turning away from an opportunity for a new, more prosperous direction. I guess even though they supposedly “despise” Corzine, they must feel some sense of security with him sitting in the Governor’s Mansion there. Perhaps a bit of “Stockholm Syndrome” at work?

Ah, well... VA will do its best to send the needed message to Team zer0 that it’s overreaching.

You are right to some extent. For the last 20 or so years the party that lost the White House has won the Governor’s mansion in the next election.

Deeds blame Obama...

Frankly, a lot of what’s going on in Washington has made it very tough,” Deeds said in a “Battleground Virginia” interview sponsored by ABC 7/WJLA-TV, POLITICO

He's not quite as "extreme" as I am, but then again, only a handful of folks posting at FR are as clearly partisan as I am.

I daresay McDonnell probably knows more Democrats than me, but that's not all that serious a problem ~ Deeds knows more Democrats ~ says he is one, which may be why he wears eyeliner and that very faint shade of light peach lipstick.

Well, strangely enough, Deeds got the NRA endorsement last time (I think the Attn'y Gen'l race) over McDonnell, due to his willingness to let go of the one-handgun-per-month rule.

I do harbor SOME optimism in that there are a TON on McDonnell signs in yards in Northern Virginia, which was a sea of Obambi signs for the 2008 election.

But, don't put it past a Repub to snatch defeat from the hands of victory.

Perhaps people are finally getting disgusted by perversities of the Democratic (socialist) Party of America and their conspirators in crime.

Perhaps the Democratic (socialist) Party of America is finally beginning to be viewed in clearer sight, and as it truly is, rather than hidden behind facades and outright illusions.

The Democratic (socialist) Party of America is pro-infanticide, pro-sexual perversion, treasonous, tyrannical, authoritarian, despotic, totalitarian, lawless, atheistic, pro-abortion, pro-euthanasia, anti-gun, anti-freedom, corrupt, Marxist/socialist/communist, racist, classist, immoral, anti-family, anti-capitalism...the list goes on and on...down.

It also looks like all three major state-wide offices will go Republican this year.

Any comments from Virginia FREEPERS about the quality of the campaigns by the three Republicans running for state-wide office?

Fauxbama has made it impossible for a Democrat to win in all but the bluest of blue districts. 2010 is setting up for a routing that will make dems think of ‘94 as the “good old days”.

Reid will be gone, Spectre will be gone, Pelosi will not be the speaker of the house after the ‘10 elections even if the Dems somehow retain control of the house (which I doubt they will).

2010 will be a repudiation of the Soros democrats the likes of which has not been seen.

I wonder if NJ isn’t looking better for Christie than being reported. You figure you’d see a leak of something by now out of NJ Dems about Obama in NJ one way or another...that election will be very interesting to see come to a conclusion.

A Republican winning in Blue Virginia...not bad. Could be a sign of things to come.

Great news but it will mean the end for Christie in New Jersey as the dnc will redirect money to Virginia.

Virginia is not Blue and it has never been Red, either. This has, for the last 20 years or so, been Purple. People mistakingly say it was Red because of the presidential winning streak and in 1997 we elected GOPers to the 3 statewide offices for the first time ever.
