Wow. If this is true it is very, very interesting, indeed.

DOJ is the marketing dept for Obama? I thought the DOJ had an entirely different mission - oh wait, I forgot, the adults are not in charge.

Not only is the Department of Justice Blog Squad going to reach out to nontraditional media like TPM Muckraker or the Muffled Oar, but they are also tasked with fostering anonymous comments at conservative leaning blogs such as the Free Republic. As we've all long suspected, this explains a lot of the ongoing troll activity here.

1. I remember a Bush administration employee (possibly in the Department of Agriculture) getting into trouble for illegally trying to generate grassroots support for some project. I forget the details, but they crossed the line by using government money to garner support for a government project.
2. Would the new FTC rules that bloggers who review products being required to disclose if they received free products or other payments from the manufacturer apply to this? Would DoJ propagandists need a footnote saying *This opinion is paid for by the federal government?
3. Would Zotting a DoJ employee be a federal crime like taking a pot shot at FBI agents hanging around your land?

“Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, has apparently hired a cadre of left-wing, Democrat campaign bloggers to troll through the Internet looking for news stories and blog posts that denigrate the Obama agenda.” Organizing to Stop Far Right Violence by Frank Schaeffer - The campaign includes letters from attorney Kevin Zeese and myself to Attorney General Eric Holder asking that he take the issue of domestic terror seriously by investigating and prosecuting threats and acts of violence. I’m working with others on a campaign to reach religious leaders who enable and encourage this violence, and asking for the launching investigations into the use of the media and web organizations by the right wing to foment violence. It is time to combat hate speech.

If indeed this is what DOJ media outreach does it would most certainly qualify as astroturfing.
Which would make it HIGHLY illegal - taxpayer dollars being spent to explicitly promote a party's partisan political agenda...no different than the NEA/Yosi Seargant debacle.

I’m completely convinced that Zero’s administration, and not just at Justice, has hundreds, and maybe thousands, of people whose job is to populate chat rooms, forums, and any and all comment sites to promote Obama and his agenda, and to head off opposition. It all started like clockwork back during the primaries, and has continued.
