It Just May be HUCKABEE'S TIME.
Chicago Daily Observer ^ | 10.07.09 | Tom Roeser

Posted on 10/07/2009 9:10:06 AM PDT by rface

As one who has either sat in an audience or on press row for 56 years...... I must say that the performance delivered by Huckabee last night at the Illinois Family Institute was unrivaled. Regardless of what they say about television and the modern communication arts, a successful presidential candidate today still must be able to deliver a stem-winder to a crowd with reason, humor and good English usage.

The year 2008 was definitely not the right time for Huckabee........

But the country has undergone a great change for which Huckabee's views will be warmly welcomed. Not due to him but to Obama. By which I mean Obama's rough-hewn leftism. The country has reacted greatly--gone to the right on social issues (witness the polls showing more Americans identify with pro-life than pro-abortion)... and Huckabee's style... if he will drop the 2008 need to lard us with spending programs to prove his "moderation"...

Pretty soon the left-wing media smear is going to get wise and switch from savaging Palin and Glenn Beck to going after Huckabee. They'll have a much tougher time with him-as they had with Reagan. And they'll have to do it without David Letterman who has been a leading artillery weapon .......

I think it's becoming Mike Huckabee's time. Romney's too smooth, has gone through too many contortions from Massachusetts to now to be credible. Pawlenty may be all right but in many ways he seems far less experienced than Huckabee... If Huckabee continues along this vein, he's going to be the candidate to beat for 2012 because of all of them only he can use his strong base on the social issues without being self-conscious as the others would.

From what I heard last night, America is thirsting for his message. I want to hear much more.

Per my sister, who had some run-ins with Huckabee supporters, most of those she met were elderly women or (politically misguided) committed Christians. I don't think Huckabee will take even a majority of the evangelical vote, but do think he will take enough away from Palin to give Romney several primary victories.

Methinks Bain Capital has been doing money transfers to Huckabee's account in the Turks and Caicos.

"Pretty soon the left-wing media-entertainment smear bund is going to get wise and switch from savaging Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck to going after Mike Huckabee. They'll have a much tougher time with him-as they had with Reagan."

LOL! Funniest thing I've read in a long long time.

The decline in Christianity is all the more reason conservatives need to rally around Huckabee for President. Huckabee can use the bully pulpit to inspire people to welcome Jesus into their hearts. America needs a Christian leader for President.

Pawlenty did nothing for Norm Coleman; he stood by while the election was stolen.

Very weak, IMO

Totally agree, plus he is just flat out "oily".

I certainly won't vote for him or any other Amnesty supporters.

No thanks!

I don’t like his preachiness, and his corny Mike Huckabee Old Time Gospel Hour show on Fox stinks.

Huckabee *uckabee. He needs to go back to Arkansas and disappear. When I hear his show come on Fox, I can't find the remote fast enough. He's nothing but McCain with a Bible.

I'm holding out hope for a dark horse and maybe the rumors about Petraeus are true.

Why not, we already have one clown in the White House, let's try for another back-to-back disaster.

I am not familiar with Huckabee’s political views, aside from his promotion of immigration in 2007 that greatly annoyed me, but I definitely see a great talent in his speech.

Having spent some time in radio broadcasting, I came to know talent in speech fluidity, and believe me, Huckabee has it in spades. He can speak off-the-cuff so well as anyone I have ever heard.

And I’ll bet that he can read a teleprompter much better than Obama ever dreamed of.

I like Petraeus too, although he has zero political background and that doesn’t play too well in today’s environment. Petraeus/Palin or Romney/Palin. And yes, I even like Romney - at least he has an IQ above room temperature.

Can’t stand Huckabee.

I was rather outspoken against Huckabee last go-round, and still don’t want him as POTUS, but that being said, I must step up to the plate and defend him. Huckabee would have been a better choice than McCain, and I believe would have had at least a little better chance than McCain (though I believe the fix was in, regardless).

McCain is wrong on every single issue, even on national defense (against using creative interrogation techniques which have saved countless lives). Huckabee is far better than McCain on social issues. His fiscal “moderate” position and his somewhat big-brother mentality on certain issues are my biggest concerns with him-

That being said, I still don’t want him as POTUS. But even McCain looks pretty good after what the first several months under 0bama have demonstrated!

If Romney gets the Repub nod in 2012, I will not be voting for him, and will be completely finished with the Republican Party. It absolutely blows my mind that there are folks on here that scream and pontificate about how Huckabee is no Conservative, yet some of those same folks pimp for Romney saying he IS a Conservative... Huckabee is further to the Right than Romney the socialized-medicine Governor (among other issues).

"His comments in the last election about Mormons was just not right"...

While it really had no place in the political realm, his comment was technically correct. While most LDS will not come right out and say it, the words of their "prophets" tells another story - even Brigham Young implied as much - Jesus was God's "Eldest Son", while Lucifer (Satan) was His "second one".

But again, this really had no place in the political discourse.

If his political skills are on a par with his bass playing ability in music
I would suggest he find another line of work beside being a politician or a musician.

folksy act? You obviously don’t know Huckabee personally. While his public personality may be grating to your nerves, I assure you, it is really him and not an “act”.
