(NECN: Washington) - The Dalai Lama today is receiving the Lantos Human Rights Prize. The award is in memory of the late Rep. Tom Lantos.

Those who advocate for Tibet see the Dalai Lama's White House visits as important messages of support for Tibetans and others struggling for human rights.

"We can't replace Tom's voice, but we can help and ensure it is not forgotten...liberty is the right of mankind," said Senator John McCain.

The people of Tibet deserve their independence. It’s not like they want to be ruled by Peking.

But Freepers, seriously, we must not forget Rep. Lantos' greatest service to the Republic. That was the day he told Clintonista Craig Livingstone: "Admiral Boorda committed SUUUUIIIICIIIIIDE for far less!"

Now that was comedy gold.

Lantos was not only a dem from SF, but he made a very vicious attack on Gen. Petreaus during his hearing. McCain has the oddest heros.

He’s an international grifter.

Only thing to like about him is that the ChiComs don’t.

“...The people of Tibet deserve their independence...”

Why? are they special? Any different than anyone else?

They only deserve it IF they’re willing to shoot Communist Chinese troops and communist government officials, puppets, and agents in the head for it - and willing to KEEP shooting them in the heads until the Communist Chinese STOP sending them. They’ll never get it through the voluntary benevelence of Communist China.

And that means firearms - which they’ve been effectively deprived of. And the WILL to use them. If that criteria isn’t met, well, all the “Free Tibet” bumper stickers in the world mean exactly the same as what comes out of a dogs butt after a good meal.

Same goes for ANY people who want to be free of communist/socialist/authoritarian rule. One of the things you have to hand to the commies is this - at least THEY have been able to keep propagating their ideology - with amazing success. I find them despicable and loathsome, but our side has NOT been able to propagate the spirit of Liberty, nor resist the encroachments on our children’s education by these people.

We’ll see if I’m wrong. I hope I am.

You only have and keep the rights you’re willing to fight, kill, and die for. People in this country knew that once. Our ancestors DID it.

Now...not so much.

to a degree, I'd give em the 'you dont know what you dont know' benefit of the doubt, both in tibet, and in grade schools here as well...

me must educate and equip people of their God given Rights, and follow through with it...

we shall see...
