Playing the classic puzzle game Tetris can boost your brain power, according to a new study.
The three-month study, by the Mind Research Network, found adolescent girls who played Tetris not only displayed greater brain efficiency, but developed a thicker brain cortex, a sign of increased grey matter.
Clinical neuropsychologist Dr Rex Jung said one of the most surprising findings of brain research in the past five years was that juggling game play increased grey matter in the motor areas of the brain. Study co-author Dr Richard Haier said Tetris had proved useful for brain researchers.
"Tetris for the brain is quite complex," he said. "It requires many cognitive processes like attention, hand-eye co-ordination, memory and visual spatial problem solving all working together quickly.

I believe this, along with most puzzle games certain RPG’s are good too.

It can’t be good for your brain when you try to sleep and you see an endless cascade of falling blocks and you can’t stop flipping and shifting them...
I played Tetris the most when my first baby was napping. It doesn’t do much good for “mommy brain.”

I had a similar experience with slot machines. This is why I don’t gamble.

When Doom first came out I used to play it for hours, but than when I went to sleep and closed my eyes all I could see was myself running down corridors as you might find in Doom.

This is actually good news for daughter.
My daughter has a brain injury with mainly problems in the motor area in her brain.
She loves to play tetris. I guess now I can’t discourage it.

I play Tetris II a fair amount. I think it helps you recognize and evaluate different possibilities very quickly.

Tetris, like many classic and polular games, has a simple set of rules, but takes effort to master.
Many games are so complex they cease to be fun,and instead are so tedious that they soon go into the storage closet.
