Precise details of what transpired in Washington during the first week of the Yom Kippur War, launched by Egypt and Syria on October 6, 1973, are hard to come by, in no small measure owing to conflicting accounts given by Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Secretary of Defense James Schlesinger regarding their respective roles.
What is clear, from the preponderance of information provided by those directly involved in the unfolding events, is that President Richard Nixon overriding inter-administration objections and bureaucratic inertia implemented a breathtaking transfer of arms, code-named Operation Nickel Grass, that over a four-week period involved hundreds of jumbo U.S. military aircraft delivering more than 22,000 tons of armaments.

Applying this standard to Nixon a makes him saint. (though I would not classify him as such) He definitely did the right thing in this case. Wisdom AND backbone!
It is amazing how the Left vilifies Nixon.
At the time he said to someone “You send everything that flies, damn it!!” And it got done.
I hate him for the EPA, mostly.
President Nixon was a fundamentally decent man, and a patriotic American.
Nixon was a very strong anti-communist and the liberals/socialists never forgot that or forgave him. IMO, watergate was more about revenge of his anti-communism than any break-in - esp since it was Dean who ordered the break-in.
My Jewish relatives have always given Nixon credit, even though they are Commie Lib nutbag freaks.
Today, I fear Obama will help to destroy Israel - and get no blame.

My father worked for DOD at the time and had a role in nuclear preparedness and post-nuclear operations. During this war, he was put on alert, and our family was ready to pack our bags and leave on short notice.
A scary time.

Can you imagine if the internet were active then, how much of the anti-Nixon bias may have been neutralized by facts? As it is now his legacy was written by the lamestream media through their prism. And, they hated him very much like they did President Bush. IMHO both got the same treatment but blog sites like this one brought out the truth like in the Rather memo scandal in President Bush's case.
Whatever else you can say about him, the SOB knew how to make decisions, unlike the fraud now in charge.
When he got ‘the call’ from Israel for help - he said his mother told him - when he was young - you are here to help Israel - do whatever you can to help them. And he did.
Defcon 2 would have dispersed everything and we would have TDY'd with it.
The most noteworthy thing I remembered about the whole affair was we raided our WRSKs and actually degraded our capability through spares depletion.
If true, then Richard Nixon may have been “one of the 36”. He lacked charm, was an abrasive politician, energized his enemies, was nonchalant toward political allies... ...so he may have been one of the 36 placed in the Presidency for a very specific reason.
Now and ever more though, Jews will vote 79-90% for the democrat for reasons known but unknown.
As a mater of fact, before the war began, Russia had been supplying Egypt with a steady build up of their latest weapons. So to put it in perspective, Nixon was only doing what Russia had been doing; supplying Israel. Politically Nixon would hold the high ground if Russia had sent troops. The Russians knew this.
Yup. Vietnam has always been called Nixon’s war too.
It will be most gratifying to hang Afghanistan around 0’s neck as HIS war.
Once again Carter is the butt of the joke....what an imbecile!!!!
What is an accurate account of Watergate?
Any books/articles that you recommend? I’ve heard several very interesting talks from Liddy on this.
