U.S. Military Advisors Told To Keep Remarks Private
Comments by Defense Secretary Robert Gates seem aimed at Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who has been speaking out about the need for more troops in Afghanistan.
By Christi Parsons October 5, 2009
Reporting from Washington - Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said Monday that President Obama's advisors should keep their guidance private, in effect admonishing the top U.S. and allied commander in Afghanistan for publicly advocating a troop-intensive military approach at a time when the White House is considering an overhaul of its strategy.
The comment by Gates came a day after a top White House official, national security advisor James Jones, said military commanders should convey their advice through the chain of command, a sharp reaction to Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal's call in a speech in London last week for a strategy aimed at stabilizing Afghanistan.
The exchanges suggested a certain disarray in the Obama administration attempt to forge a new policy on Afghanistan and underscored the wide differences among top officials over the correct approach after eight years of failed efforts.
The controversy centered on McChrystal, a special forces commander tapped by Obama to take charge of the Afghanistan effort in June to institute a sweeping counterinsurgency strategy. Obama and McChrystal spoke Friday aboard Air Force One on an airport tarmac in Copenhagen, and White House officials did not detail what the two talked about.

Zero has thrown the US Military under the bus!
Our president is a wussy. Complete 100% ‘Grade A’ wussy!
Islam/Saudis demand a humiliation of our military and a LOT more dead. The only explanation for the rules of engagement.
Are you listening “marine” Judge Carter?
Well that goes for everyone else then too. Zero doesn’t like criticism from anyone. If you work for the guy, you need to STFU.
Talk about disarray. Didn't the White House sign off on McChrystal's speech in London?
It is worse that that. This is by design.
I think the military was used to dealing with George Bush and got treated with respect and also received timely answers.
With Obama there is no respect and obviously disarray. Not good and even worse with a hot war going on and our troops dying on the battle field.
The list, ping
There isn’t going to be any whistleblowers in BO’s administration.
How long can the Kenyan communist vote “present” when it comes to “considering an overhaul of strategy”? He’s had eight months! Of course, Ubama cares nothing about Afghanistan or the military or the ultimate sacrifices of America’s finest young people - - to him it’s all about political expediency. His only consideration is, “What’s best for me, politically”?
And now McChrystal has essentially told Ubama to “poop or get off the pot”.
Good for McChrystal.
A CIC is supposed to publish a National Security Strategy. This is a guideline for Military leaders to use when a situation is not black and white in regard to Regulations. Right now, general officers down through first tier noncommissioned officers have no executive guidance.
He has no policies for national security, the economy, or health care reform.
He is voting present, not as a US Senator, but as the POTUS.

The real issue is whether or not Obama is **eligible** to lead the military.
Me thinks the Military will flip the bus over on top of nobama.
Where is pissant’s popcorn? This is getting very interesting, INDEED.
Saw Newt on FNC saying that if nobama’s bunch didn’t preview and OK on McCrystl’s London speech, that they were more lost and inept than we imagined.
The Commander would not have done it if he didn’t have to. Apparently he was being ignored and is a big enough man to say it publicly.
General Biden is in disagreement with General McChrystal and the boy king is clueless... we are so screwed.... BTW don’t forget it was Gates who advised throwing Iraq under the bus to please Iran back before he even because Sec. Defense.
bump thanks
I am reminded of Caligula—who marched his army to the English Channel, they thinking they were about to invade Britain. Instead he had them pick up seashells. Yes, he was a lunatic.
