On Mondays CBS Early Show, co-host Harry Smith promoted a new book and documentary about a New York City couple that spent a year without modern amenities, such as toilet paper and electricity, to limit their impact on the environment: This is an amazing saga....when the lights were switched back on, Colin and Michelle clearly saw a year that meant so much more than living without toilet paper.
Smith asked Colin and Michelle Beavan what their inspiration was, to which Colin replied: Concern for the planet. I mean, we were reading so much about global warming happening and we were just frustrated because what can any one person do? So we thought wed try to do what we could. Michelle added: I had just seen the movie An Inconvenient Truth, so that really it was kind of perfect timing.
In response to the Beavans only eating fresh unpackaged food, Smith saw the logic: the cost of what the wheat is in a box of cereal that costs $4? Its a couple of pennies, you know, versus all of this stuff thats around it. So theres theres some sense in all of this. Near the end of the segment, Colin again cited global warming hysteria: And we discovered that, you know, there is a climate emergency happening and it is possible for us as citizens to actually take care. Smith agreed: You just have to get 300 million people to do it.

“Basically these idiots have adopted a standard of living that my great grandparents had in about 1880. I seriously doubt most Americans would be willing to take their standard of living back more than a century. By the way in my great grandparents day toilet paper consisted of corn cobs. According to my father, when visiting his grandparents he was instructed to use a brown cob first followed by a white cob as a test whether another brown cob was needed.”
Lotta cornholers back in those days......
Better watched than smelt...
Hmm...wonder where they work (unless they are trustafarians and don’t). Perhaps they availed themselves of the office restroom and what it has to offer?
I can’t believe there are people as stupid as this couple out there. They not only endanger themselves, but others, not to mention the general offensiveness of...yech. And for what? Some ‘crisis’ that they have no control over.
They took a HUGE risk with their daughter by dropping off the cleanliness.
The poster even whacked off the "r."
Didn't writing this line make you a little nervous?
The article states “with wife and daughter”. And even worse, she was a toddler while they did this. The mother talks about how romantic it became to come home to the dark and the silence. No mention of a young child’s fears of living without night lights or soft music or adequate warmth or cleanliness ... if a black couple with a kid turns off the power, lives in the cold, drops off the cleanliness and said it was to save the planet, they’d get charged with child abuse. “Wait, we’re white writers doing a book!” Oh, now it’s OK.
Okay folks, then I say that we need to ban disposable diapers immediately since we have an “emergency” and we must SAVE THE PLANET. BTW, the last time I heard any discussion on that very issue was about 20 years ago. Gee, ya reckon that one is off limits?
Listen, I’ve dealt with these people for all my 67 years, well, at least since around 15, when I could discern things a bit. Nothing’s changed, same old stuff.
These types are STILL HERE and still yapping about their superior lifestyles.
It’s no wonder that they turned green.
I don’t really think I want to be close friends with people who don’t use toilet paper.
This type of ‘reporting’ on things like ‘a year without toilet paper’ is getting me depressed. We’re all stuck in the reality version of “1984”. These people have absolutely lost their minds. Environmentalism is these peoples’ religion.
And I wish I were joking.
But they can use their books for toilet paper and get a twofer.
E-X-A-C-T-L-Y !!!
I don't...
They may be smarter than you think. By the time Obama’s through with us, some of those “skills” may well be useful.
So who switched their lights back on? And why? Let the crazy fools sit in the dark and smell one another.
I feel about environmentalists the way I feel about those cultists who killed themselves thinking they would board the Hale-Bopp Comet in their Nikes.
The only difference was the mainstream media was complicit in thier cultism like they the environmentalists.
Alcohol ~has~ to be involved.
