Halloween: A Teachable Moment About Socialism
Bob McCarty Writes ^ | 10-4-09 | Bob McCarty

In a post published Oct. 24, 2008, I described what Halloween 2009 would be like for American children if Barack Obama became the nation's 44th president. In light of the fact that the community organizer from Illinois went on to win the election, I decided to republish an updated version of that post.

TOPICS: Political Humor/Cartoons; Politics/Elections; US: Missouri
KEYWORDS: halloween; socialism; teachablemoment; wealth
I’m not a big fan of Halloween, but I have some advice -- in the form of five guidelines -- for those of you who plan to allow your children to take part in the 2009 version of the ritual of trick-or-treating.

Last year I had to start turning away the kids who were a bit too old and not in costume. Punks.

Then, tell the kid that you’re going to take the money you used to spend on Halloween candy and buy him/her a membership in NRA or donate it to FR ;-)

One of the posted comments on the YouTube video:

If you think like a child, I suppose this would make sense to you.

My response: Which is why it would go right over the head of a typical democrat.

Yo Bob, where is the advice/guidelines? Did you want to share them with us, or do we have to click over to your blog to see them? You’ll get more discussion of your writing if you actually post it here rather than pimping for hits on your blog.

I had one, about twenty years old come to my door, in costume, he had a couple of younger kids with him. Just a minute of talking to him explained the situation and I gave him candy too.

The two younger kids, about 10-12 years old were actually escorting him on the rounds, he was mentally about 8-10 years old.

You're right though, generally 14 or 15 is a bit too old.

They were his siblings.

I’m not a veteran here, so here you go, VRWC:

1. Tell your child he cannot eat any of the candy he collects and will, instead, have to take all of it to the ACORN office nearest your home (wipe tears);

2. Tell your child he will have to turn over their bags full of candy to the government-authorized agents who, in addition to collecting the candy, will need to record his name, Social Security number and contact information for future use (wipe tears);

3. Tell your child he will have to wait 12 weeks for ACORN officials to count all of the candy he collected and repackage it for equal-share redistribution among all children in their community (wipe tears);

4. Tell your child that, within 12 weeks, he should expect to be provided instructions for picking up a his fair and equal share of the treats he collected after ACORN officials finish counting all of the collected collected candies (wipe tears); and

5. Tell your child that the scenario above offers them a glimpse of what the future in the United States will look like if socialism is allowed to flourish (wipe tears for last time) and that he can keep his children from having to experience such pain by voting for — and by encouraging others to vote for — conservatives whose values line up with those of this country’s founders and the framers of the U.S. Constitution.

"...Last year I had to start turning away the kids who were a bit too old and not in costume. Punks...."

Last year half my doorbell-ringers were ghetto kids who did not know the existence of "please" or "thank you". I corrected them. They did not like that. The phrase "gimme candy, gimme candy" does not suffice at the I Buried My Guns household.

The dichotomy between the regular kids and the feral ones was severe. Some ghetto kids even messed with my jack-o-lantern right in front of me and when told to stop they got attitude, and they were only 9 years old. I surmised they had never been reprimanded, especially by a white person. This year we're just gonna leave the lights off, or I will patrol the neighborhood against the heathens, as last year somebody destroyed a lot of property here on Halloween, and all eyes point to the ghetto interlopers. Frankly, it is a liability letting them near our area.

For the most part I think these kids were sent out to shepherd younger siblings and figured why not carry a sack and get their own candy too. But I figure a dress up to get candy rule is pretty fair.

I’m going to have to remember to get way more candy this year. It was our first year at this house, which is right next to a church that held a Halloween event of some kind last year. Right after that was over our whole block was overrun with kids. We did not have nearly enough candy. Got to be better prepared this year.
