This year's Day of the Soldier celebrations in Honduras got a mixed response. The military is now seen as tarnished by its role in the ouster of President Manuel Zelaya.
Tegucigalpa, Honduras - With rifle shots into the air and the national anthem sung by soldiers in salute, Saturday's Day of the Soldier in Honduras seemed no different than any other year's commemorations for the armed forces.
But this Oct. 3, after the June ouster of President Manuel Zelaya catapulted the Honduran military into the middle of a political saga, the customary congratulations from Honduran citizens are more muted.

More pro-socialist spin from the anti-democracy media.

I stopped reading the Christian Science Monitor years ago when it became apparent that they were leaning left in their reporting. I see that the leftward lean hasn’t ceased.
Dumba@@ alert. If the military is anti-democratic, then why did they get rid of Zelaya and then allow the civilians, that is, parliament and Micheletti, to control the government?
Isn’t the CSM web-only now?
20+ years ago it was decent and respected newspaper, but the burden of being in downtown leftie Boston obviously was too much to handle.
Typical leftist propaganda from the Christian Science Monitor.

The Honduran Military is a great institution. I should know I had many relatives serve in it.
I have noticed one thing. Some others have noticed too. You seem to be anti-Michelleti.
You seem to be pro-Zelaya
The Honduras did everything by the book. The Congressional Reaserch Service said the “coup” was legit. The Congressional Research Service (CRS) serves shared staff to congressional committees and Members of Congress. CRS experts assist at every stage of the legislative process from the early considerations that precede bill drafting, through committee hearings and floor debate, to the oversight of enacted laws and various agency activities.
The Honduran military is a great institution, Many of my family members have been officers at some point in Honduran history. They have won many battles in the last 100 years. Here is the Washington Examiner on the “Coup” from two sources
Here is the copy of that CRS Report on Honduras saying it was it took legitimate steps to remove Zelaya
