This year's Day of the Soldier celebrations in Honduras got a mixed response. The military is now seen as tarnished by its role in the ouster of President Manuel Zelaya.
Tegucigalpa, Honduras - With rifle shots into the air and the national anthem sung by soldiers in salute, Saturday's Day of the Soldier in Honduras seemed no different than any other year's commemorations for the armed forces.
But this Oct. 3, after the June ouster of President Manuel Zelaya catapulted the Honduran military into the middle of a political saga, the customary congratulations from Honduran citizens are more muted.

Dumba@@ alert. If the military is anti-democratic, then why did they get rid of Zelaya and then allow the civilians, that is, parliament and Micheletti, to control the government?

I think Sara Miller Llana’s point in this article is that in the past, most Hondurans supported the military but that after the coup, the support has softened. If that’s true, will the military regain any lost support after Election Day in November? Who knows?
The Honduran Military is a great institution. I should know I had many relatives serve in it.

The Honduran military is a great institution, Many of my family members have been officers at some point in Honduran history.They have won many battles in the last 100 years. Here is the Washington Examiner on the “Coup” from two sources
