How an eagle-eyed junior policeman ended Roman Polanski's 30 years of freedom
03rd October 2009 | Daphne Barak

Sources close to Polanski, 76, and Emmanuelle Seigner, his French wife of 20 years, say that a regional officer noticed Polanski's name on a database of wanted criminals.

Realising the director was due to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Zurich Film Festival, he contacted the Swiss Federal Department of Police and Justice.

The Swiss phoned their US counterparts, who have had an arrest warrant out for Polanski since 1978, and they eagerly requested he be held as soon as he flew into Switzerland from France.

Mystery surrounds the compensation that Roman Polanski has paid to Samantha Geimer.

Court documents in California show he agreed to pay her £314,000 in 1993 to settle her law suit.

But the last court filing, in August 1996, shows Polanski owed her £380,000, including interest.

Polanski's lawyer David Finkle said he could not remember details of the case. 'It's ancient,' he said, declining to comment further.

Ms Geimer's lawyer, Lawrence Silver, was unavailable for comment.

Ms Geimer, who long ago identified herself as the victim, sued Polanski in December 1988 when she was 25, alleging sexual assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress and seduction.

In a December 1995 court document, Mr Silver said: 'The defendant has failed to pay any part of the sum due or the interest due on the attached note'.

“Mystery surrounds the compensation that Roman Polanski has paid to Samantha Geimer.”

There’s no mystery.

He agreed to pay her -— and then didn’t pay her!

Although he seems to be super rich with his multiple houses and apartments etc.

Rather like he agreed to not pay her, and then did rape her.

I think you see what kind of guy he is ...

Oh yeah, BTW,

his movies stink too, and I mean really stink ...

Uh, he is not a master or a maestro ...

Just a POS.

How do you say POS in French?

oh yeah

piece de merde .......

Always has been always will be........

Did he ruin Natasha Kinski’s 15 year old life too??????

He seems to rather specialize in that doesn’t he ???????

Non-payment of agreed settlement reveals Polanski felt no remorse for his past actions and no inclination to make up for past deeds.

The POS also welches on any agreements. He said he would pay her - he did not. He copped a plea deal then ran away.

There should be no “case” or trails as he admitted guilt then fled. If any of us became a fugitive we would get an extra five years which is what he should get. it should be go directly to jail do not pass go.

Lifetime achievement award for being a low life. The award is given in prison. Incidentally, there is more real morality in prison than in Hollywood: if he goes there he’ll find out how the convicts view of his behavior.

He can send Morse code signals by taping on the wall to Charlie Manson’s cell.

I thought I read somewhere on FR that this whole thing got started up because of Polanski’s lawyers actually going to a judge to try to drop the whole extradition thing now that he’s so old. And it backfired on them big time.

Put his pedophile a@@ in the same cell at Vacaville with Spector. Then have Charley and Sirhan keep an eye on the two of them.

I read that too and it is quite believable. Polansky’s lawyers stirred up a hornet’s nest at the DA’s office
