targetted assassination when these people travel internationally would make them think twice about helping Iran.

Enabling muslim nations can backfire. Guess the Russians have forgotten that time when the Germans got cozy with the Ottoman Empire.

Here's some history in an excerpt from
PalestineFacts.org:
What led to the Six Day War in 1967?
Military Provocation By Arab Countries and Soviet Disinformation
At the same time, and unknown to the Israelis, the Soviet Union mounted a disinformation campaign pushing Egypt to join Syria against Israel. At that time, the Soviets were providing military and economic aid to both Syria and Egypt. On May 13, 1967 a Soviet parliamentary delegation visited Cairo and informed the Egyptian leaders that Israel had concentrated eleven to thirteen brigades along the Syrian border in preparation for an assault within a few days, with the intention of overthrowing the revolutionary Syrian Government. This was a complete fabrication designed by the Soviets to destabilize the Middle East. Similar false information may have been given to Egypt by the Soviets as early as May 2.
The build up and aggressive intent were denied by Israel. UN Secretary General U Thant reported that UNTSO observers on the Syrian border:
... have verified the absence of troop concentrations and absence of noteworthy military movements on both sides of the [Syrian] line.
Nasser probably correctly interpreted the Soviet information as an indication to him that the time was ripe for an attack on Israel and that he had their backing. With the United States deeply distracted by the War in Vietnam, the Soviets had reason to think there would be no US intervention. Nassar then abandoned his former cautious policy and took the lead for new aggression against Israel. Syria and Iraq eagerly joined Egypt's preparations, increasing the momentum toward war.

Well it’s about time someone started implicating Russians in helping Iran with their nuclear ambitions. If anyone still doesn’t think Russia wants to stir up trouble in the Middle East, just keep your eye glued to the news.

Qom facility. It's buried deep - so deep that probably only nerve gas dropped with penetrator weapons down the ventilation shafts could do the job.
Plus the urban location means a lot of civilian casualties, regardless of whether anyone cares about blasting an ersatz "holy" city.
Which means the Israelis now must shift their strategy from an attack on the Mullahs' nuclear facilities to an attack on the Mullah regime itself. There is a term for this. It's called a Decapitation Strike.
Wipe out the Presidential Palace, the HQ of the Al Quds and Pasdaran forces, the Basiji offices, the command-and-control centers, collapse the regime, incapacitate it from reasserting its authority. The Mullah regime would be history in 24 hours. During the resultant anarchy until a new government is formed (or governments, as Iran may well break apart), commando teams can be inserted to demolish the nuclear facilities on the ground.
I know this is being considered - but will Bibi give the final thumbs up? Only Bibi knows. Per Jack Wheeler

The Russians obviously still want to control the Gulf and the oil that flows through it to the West.
This will spring back at them one day. Iran will set a few off around the Caspian.

I was in Saratov in 1999 (one of ten trips to Russia) when I was shown an interesting device - a very small electron scanning-tunneling microscope and images of supposed viruses taken with it. The scientist told me American universities should "hire their scientists to do research in Russia so they would not go abroad and develop weapons for countries like Iran".
If Russia (and they do read this)'s authorities don't round up and prosecute the individuals who were named by the Israelis, they would be implicated in having helped Iran develop nuclear weapons on a national level. -Try to export this sort of technology from the USA and you would be in solitary confinement for the rest of your natural life.
